Sounds like AA wants to aquire impact young player

Post#1 » by Griff83 » Fri Jun 24, 2011 5:32 pm

According to his fan590 interview today

Ill give a quick update on the interview then post the audio

-He talked about young players and the potential of buying low on some. Said that its a risky proposition because theres no gurantee the player bounces back. Heres what is really interesting from this interview.

-Were in a position with alot of fleixibility and got alot of prospects

-He was telling Paul Beeston hes very excited for july 31 trade deadline and although its not a gurantee something happens but hes very hopefull.

-Paul asked him if hes going to do anything and AA said he hopes that he will, that hes been very active on the phone and hes very excited for whats to come in July and the offseason.

-Says they have a few very big internal meetings coming up in the next week to discuss important stuff

-Says were more looking for major league talent then prospects at this point

-Im at this point more targeting big league players because we are starting to come up with a core and need to find out a little more about some of our young players that are pushing there way up to Toronto and want to continue to suppliment the big league team but wont force anything but his focus is on the major league team.

-Says he hopes we are the team that uses some of our prospects that bring in MLB talent to help the big league team.

Sounds like things are about to get serious soon.

If we can acquire a major league young outfielder/bat with experience, and a number 2/3 starter that would be very good trades for this team.

Great recap.. and I am hoping that we cash in with all the assets that have been accumulated.. especially the load on the pitching side of things.

Guys that come to mind to me that AA would have on his radar as guys that aren't having the best of years that you can probably buy low on are guys like

BJ Upton
Chris Stewart
Chris Davis
Will Venable

Just to name a few .
Want: Trae Young, Michael Porter Jr., DeAndre Ayton, Jaren Jackson Jr, Marvin Bagley III, Mohamad Bamba, Shai Gilgeous- Alexander, Elie Okobo, Jevon Carter

Gordon Beckham? He talked about buying low on young players and he's been slumping for almost 2 years now

Randle will like this:
The Rays have "sent signals that they're open for business" and are prepared to take offers according to rival executives. Olney notes that their tradeable pieces include Kyle Farnsworth and B.J. Upton.

If AA is interested in BJ Upton, hopefully he's able to pry away Farmsworth from them as well if he could net us a compensation pick as a Type B free agent.

those are some crappy list of "impact young" players. Venable doesn't even belong to this conversation and Ian Stewart and Davis are not impact players. They are someone you gamble on. You could make a case for Upton. Upton's defense is nice, but I'd personally pass.

With the Dodgers crazy financial issues, wonder if guys like Clayton Kershaw or Matt Kemp would be available. Think Kemp still has a couple years though at a reasonable price.

For either of those two, you can say goodbye to Lawrie, Drabek and basically any other prospect the jays have that's decent.

Between his contract ($46.5M from 2012-14), attitude problems, and poor performance this season, Hanley Ramirez was the first guy I thought of as well. The Marlins are definitely cheap enough to do it. He has been horrifically bad this season, but much like with Escobar last season, you will never be able to potentially get these guys if they weren't performing terribly. Whether the Marlins would trade him is the question. I think we certainly have a strong enough farm system to start trading some prospects.

Other than that, no one player really jumps out at me as a good buy low candidate, but I'm sure AA is doing his work.

If that's the case Colby Rasmus comes to mind.
