OT: Rasmus being shopped hard?

Link. The Cardinals "now appear to be shopping" center fielder Colby Rasmus "widely," tweets Danny Knobler of CBS Sports. Knobler notes that the Nationals had a scout in St. Louis last night.
A lot of Toronto media outlets like Getting Blanked have been shooting down the fan speculation of the Jays making a run at Rasmus, but maybe it's not so crazy after all. He's certainly an upgrade over Davis.

I'm sure AA is interested but I don't think we have the pieces. The Cards are looking for a SP who can help them this year.

Give them Cecil.
Rasmus is exactly the kind of player that the Jays should be trying to acquire.

Would a straight up Cecil for Rasmus work ? I would think we would add more which might be a deal breaker.

Just quickly looking at his stats - what's with the tanking of his defensive WAR over the last few years? He'd be a major plus WAR player every year if he could return to his rookie season defense (stats wise at least).
Still a huge upgrade over Davis, and fills a huge hole in our line-up right now. Gose is still a ways a way (and not a sure thing).

It would take quite a bit more than that, I'm sure.

Cecil + Thames + Alvarez/Stewart/Deck/McDade

Why? How is he a major upgrade over Snider, Thames and Bautista at the cost of a starter? He's not a major need.

CF is a major need, unless you feel Snider is a long term solution defensively.
Short term, he replaces Corey Paterson in the outfield. Once Lawrie gets called up, one of Snider/Thames gets bumped down to DH and EE is replaced.

CF is perhaps this team's biggest need outside of maybe 2B and starting pitching.

Colby Rasmus might not even be able to play CF though, both TotalZone and UZR grade him poorly since after his rookie year(his defensive metrics in 2009 looked great). It either could be the usual statistical ups and downs of defensive metrics but it might also be real trend that could be cause for concern.
I also don't see him being worth what the Cards are asking for. There are actually a number of decent quality Center Fielders available in the trade market. BJ Upton and Michael Bourn will be way cheaper and they might even be similar players.
Even a guy like Angel Pagan who might be non-tendered in this offseason could be a good target. He had two excellent seasons before this(probably better than Rasmus) and this year BABIP seems to be his only problem, his K and BB rates look great.

He is actually the player I covet most. I think he has so much potential and the fact that he is still young would be good to match with the rest of the team.
But as what is said i am unsure of what we can offer as they are looking for help now.
Maybe a Cecil/frasor and maybe mills (who is mlb ready by the looks of it?)

I guess, but likely not at their asking price. Career sub-.800 OPS and poor OBP/speed for a CF. Plus the reason he's available supposedly is attitude problems. Sure he has potential, but he's already played multiple full seasons (unlike say Snider, who's been jerked around horrendously through parts of 3 seasons).

I think Snider is fine in cf. Rasmus just isn't good enough to forfeit a quality sp and one of Thames or Snider. I think 2b and all around improved pitching are way more important than trying to aquire Colby Rasmus.

I'd rather have the Jays bargain somewhere else. It's not like he's a terrific fielder (from what I've seen) and despite his supposed offensive potential he hasn't exactly broke out yet, although I suppose the latter might be a reason why you might want to get him at his current price. Most importantly, what second year player in their right mind decides to retaliate against a manager with LaRussa's track record? That's a few too many question marks on the guy for me.

A reasonable guy who isn't willing to accept LaRussa's nonsense?

I'm not a fan of LaRussa by any means but come on now, considering his situation he shouldn't have done anything else but shut his mouth and play his ass off. What could have LaRussa possibly asked him to do? play with a broken leg?

according to Colby's father in
this report Tony Rasmus jokingly said that manager Tony La Russa and hitting coach Mark McGwire are attempting to turn his son into more of a Skip Schumaker-type batter.
