The Fall of Aaron Hill = Concussion?

Post#1 » by number15 » Wed Jul 27, 2011 3:19 am

everyone remembers that concussion he suffered while sliding to the base..... is that what killed his career, or was all the high point a fluke?

i viewed him as a future star and pillar of the future of the Jays..... the guy was likely the BEST offensive second baseman in the AL that year

He had his best season of his professional career immediately following that season.

103 runs, 195 hits, 37 doubles, 36 home runs, 108 RBI. .286 average, .330 OBP, .499 slugging%. OPS .829 5.4 WAR**

He was a solid prospect, and a good pro in his first few years, but the highest WAR he posted before that comeback year was 2.9 (very good, and 1.9 after that). His current war is -0.2; he is essential a replacement level player.

worst part about it, is he compares to players like Brandon Phillips, Orlando Cabrera, Ian Kinsler, Michael Young, and Marcus Giles. Problem with Hill is - watching him play - you know it's all downhill from this already low point.

The problem with Hill is his swing is ****. He doesn't know what he's doing at the plate, he's in between what he was in 2005-2007 and what he was in 2009. Has nothing to do with a concussion that happened three years ago.

First time I've ever looked at xBABIP, but Hill's is roughly .311 if I used it correctly. That's over 60 points higher than his actual BABIP. imo Hill's would be quite misleading for a number of reasons, though.

Just trying to get through the season here with hope here and there.

That's assuming he's hitting his ground balls and line drives harder than my grandmother. xBABIP doesn't mean much if he's making horrible contact.
