That's the **** game winning run from a 19 inning game? Disgusting, selfish, and all around atrocious from that ump.

While the tag was questionable, the throw beat the runner by such a large margin you can't call that safe. Umpires need to start being held accountable by the league.

Not sure that he was wrong, though; watched it a couple times, and it doesn't look like the glove made contact with either his leg or arm.

It's because of plays/calls like that, that they need to introduce instant replay review...

A better view, that's an absolutely horrendous call.

I can't get worked up over this, to be honest. I still don't see a tag, and if there was one, it's pretty easy to see how the ump missed it.

looks like the glove skimmed lugo's knee, but barely though. there is a little ripple effect that goes down lugo's leg after the tag was applied. the tag is not entirely fluid because it just nicks the runner imo...you can tell the speed of the swipe changes after it appears the glove makes contact with the player.

pretty bad slide though...yea the catcher was blocking the plate but lugo made no attempt to avoid the tag, not to mention attempting to slide from so far

Even if it doesn't look like he tagged him on his knees, he clearly tagged him on the arm shortly after, I think this is a blatantly terrible call.

What? The tag completely missed his arm.

The ripple effect mentioned earlier also looks a lot more like it was due to the slide and not the tag, too. I really can't see the disbelief here. This was easy to miss live speed during the game. Yes, there should be replay, but I'd still be watching it to try and make the right call.

I don't see why everyone is up in arms over this. That was a terrible tag. Although it looks like he did touch him in the replay, it's hardly noticeable, and even less so live.

I just hate the play as a whole. The umpire's call was crappy, but the catcher really blew it. The catcher's an idiot for making such an easy out so much harder than it should have been -- what a horrible tag swipe. But if the tag is questionable, and the ball beats the runner by a mile, the umpire should always call it an out. Lugo was about 3 feet away from the plate when the ball reached the catcher -- unless the tag is clearly missed, that should be an out call.

But whatever; I don't think it was that horrible a call... it's the catcher's fault for not making it anywhere near as easy as it should have been.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

You have to call that an out otherwise your encouraging players to make hard tags. You shouldn't have to punch a player with the ball to show you tagged him. The catcher had the ball, waited for the player to slide into him and applied the tag. That has to be an out everytime.

Copyright infringement. You can watch it on mlb.com. They show it four times with different announcers. It's hilarious.
