but in the recent months, June and July, he is really coming alone.

one month of hot hitting may be just a streak, but Encarnacion was hitting above 800 ops for 2 months.
Within this time frame, his BB/K is decent enough, and BABIP is really off the chart too.
So, it makes me think, those numbers are for real.

Does anyone else think this way?

Encarnacion has had a good two months, but his career tells us that he's a streaky and mediocre hitter. I wouldn't look too much into it at this point.

What's really strange, is that his defense has also improved significantly. He was making some gold glove calibre plays at 3rd just before Jose took over, and he has looked great at 1st lately.

A little confidence can go a long ways in baseball.

ya, that is why I am hesitated to count on him as a consistent ops 800+ hitter

i'm tired of seeing these players who have slow starting seasons like wells, francisco, and EE. cant trust them to perform a full season.

Seriously, though, I don't think EE has Jose's drive, so this is likely an anomaly, but never say never.

Bautista is probably the only player in history to make thte kind of turn around he did. I don't think we should be saying something is possible just because it happens to 1 out of every 100000 players.

Randle's right imo. His OPS over this time is .865. His career OPS is .785. A couple months of playing a bit over your career numbers is pretty common. Not enough to think that the .865 ops #'s are now the true representation of EE.

Listen I agree, and like I said, he doesn't seem to have Jose's intangibles which were critical to his turnaround. But supposedly EE is working with the coaches on his D in particular, and if that's the case, then he still wants to improve as a player. I'd love to see him do well the rest of the season because his reasonably priced 2012 team option with cheap buyout would make him attractive in a winter trade. Another team could gamble on his talent without gambling on him financially. And he could step aside to allow space for a younger player to evolve as DH or a position player.

I agree that I'de like to see him do well for the rest of the season too. I just think it's too early to consider him to be having a break out.

There are some late boomer in the MLB, Bautista is one, Randy Johnson is another one. I would say both Chris Carpenter and Cliff Lee are late boomer too. Oh, Luis Gonzalez and Steve Finely too..They all made a breakout at around 30 years old.

As far as EE, it is not a secret that he has a tremendous raw power. I remember in the spring training, there was an article on Jays' site, which I can't find it now, saying Farrell think EE has the ability to hit 40 HR in a season. Well, I kinda think 40 is a stretch, but 30 is quite reasonable. He had a 26HR season before.

The problem for EE is always his ability to make soild contact with the baseball. When he does making good contact with the ball, he would become a dangerous hitter with the raw power he got. On the other hand, when he doesn't, he is like nothing. That is why he is streaky.

As for the two OPS that Hendrix posed, I think the career OPS is the current mean, .865 should be the mean when EE can make consistent contact.

Dose EE has the talent to be a consistent 865OPS hitter? I think is yes.
It is just the matter of if he can keep hitting like that until the season ended.
