Could we pick him up? He isnt doing great this year but he was good for us in his last toronto year. Also, if he came in he would instantly be a decent 3rd starter for us as well as an upgrade over Villanueva, Cecil, or Mills.

I wouldn't really be interested. He is owed $32 million for 2013 and 2014 and he is a .500 career pitcher.

It's normal for teams to try to push guys like Burnett through waivers, it doesn't mean they are going anywhere.

Not that the Jays should want him, anyway. He's not the same guy that was in Toronto.

No thanks. I don't think the fans want AJ back in Toronto.

Usually teams end up putting their entire roster on waivers, as someone has mentioned, it doesn't mean they are going anywhere. I doubt the Yankees let him go; they're already bleak on SP...

Yeah, let's not repeat this thread when we discover Longoria, Lincecum, Hanley, Price, and Strasburg are all on waivers.

If he clears waivers he stays on the team , basically nothing happens.

If a team claims a player off waivers and has a viable claim as described above, his current team (the "waiving team") may choose one of the following options:

1)arrange a trade with the claiming team for that player within two business days of the claim;
2)rescind the request and keep the player on its major league roster, effectively canceling the waiver;
3)do nothing and allow the claiming team to assume the player's existing contract, pay the waiving team a waiver fee, and place the player on its active major league roster.

Rios was claimed off waivers a few years ago by the White Sox, and we chose option 3.

Thanks for explaining. I always wanted to know myself how that worked out.

Apparently they also placed Soriano on waivers. This is usually just 'procedural' but he is a proven closer. I would much rather put a claim in on him if we were to do anything (provided his injuries are not serious).

Soriano makes $11m next year and $14m in the final year of his deal. Absurd money for a player with 7.3 career WAR spanning his 10 seasons and numbers that should continue trending the wrong way moving away from extreme pitcher's parks with his low HR rates and possible declining velocity and peripherals.

I want nothing to do with that bum. Man he's just looks like somebody you want to punch in the face. His contract is absurd and Toronto shouldn't be touching that much money for a .500 pitcher to be what our 3rd starter behind Romero and Morrow or Drebek possibly next year. Let the Yanks live with that horrible deal I would rather go after a big fish this offseason (Pojuls, Fielder or Reyes) and a some bullpen help

If a player clears waivers without being claimed from a team, he then becomes eligible for a trade to any team out there...

Most of the time nothing happens, I doubt anyone would trade for Posada, Burnett and Soriano.
