Is it time to move on from Snider?

Post#1 » by darth_federer » Thu Aug 4, 2011 8:19 pm

Guy has all the talent in the world but things havent worked out here. We havent helped by yo yoing all the time either. Allan Ashby said at the beginning of the season that if he didnt show us anything this season then it was probably time to move on. He also said that if Snider hadnt improved against lefties it was hard to see him here in the future. He looks like a classic buy low scenario.

The Jays said that they would let him stay up and give him enough time to succeed but they sent him to the minors again. Time to move on?

Yes..... for Travis Snider's sake... FREE HIM!

some team will get him at a low price like Toronto got Colby Rasmus.... then they will look for him to rebounds, like AA wants Rasmus too. Both very young, very talented but performing below expectations....... very simiar situation

on a side note..... Snider was riding VERY HOT after his call up. Maybe the trade deadline would have been the best time to get more value for him

JPR did his part to ruin him by calling him up to the big league all the way from A+ in a span of few months to save his ass. He should've spent the entire 2009 season and partial 2010 season in AA/AAA.

I sure hope they are willing to send Brett Lawrie back down if he dosent perform.... i mean he's pretty young and and we saw what happened to Snider. This would be the time to do any send down, not after he's played 1-2 seasons in the MLB

but if he proves he can handle it... i have no problem with Lawrie here

I highly doubt AA will trade him now. It isn't like him to sell low on a player, despite the fact you could probably get a good prospect or two due to Snider's still tremendous potential.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I wouldn't give up on him, I'd give it 1 more year. There is no point in selling him for basically nothing right now. Also Thames has looked pretty horrid in some at bats, he is far from a sure thing... It's not like there is no room for him anymore.

No one is gonna trade their own prospects (decent ones anyway) to get Snider. Rebuilding teams might trade expensive veterans like Wandy for Snider and other fillers though.

I agree with all of this.

Which is why this **** up decision to send him down again is even more infuriating.

I'm actually even more pissed that i've spent the better part of the last couple of months wanting Lawrie to be called up and now when it happens they just continue the gong show that is Travis Snider's development by sending him down again.

Hard to show anything when you never get an actual opportunity. People called Alex Gordon a AAAA player too and look what he's doing now.

Exactly. What's even more baffling is all the old scrubs that have gotten or are getting extended runs with this team yet they absolutely refuse to give him 2months in another meaningless season.

And now Anthopoulos and Farrell have started right where they left off.

Gordon's 27 and starting to show up - means the Jays requiring to remain patient for the next 3 years. I don't see them doing that particularly with Bautista doing what he's doing and promises from management that 2012+ will be the years to contend. Yes, it's time to move on, and yes I think we'll be looking for larger contracts to take in doing so.

Snider can still be a Bryan Giles type player, time will tell.

He'll always be hyped regardless, and yes he probably will perform eventually. But the Jays can't and won't wait imo. He'll fetch a very good player+ via trade. Someone that will help us immediately.
