The long-anticipated promotion to the majors of Brett Lawrie as baseball’s next great Canadian player is at hand. He will be in a Blue Jays uniform on Friday in Baltimore bearing number 13 on his back and the weight of a nation on his shoulders.

Now, here’s a question about Lawrie that’s been rattling around in this cranium for a night or so. Is he the most anticipated pro athlete to hit Toronto in years? I’d say yes.

Finally, Brett Lawrie gets the call to the majors, so the fantasy surge can begin. Huge day for my fantasy portfolio. HUGE. Maybe the biggest since the Jered Weaver waiver claim of '06.

This obviously gives the Jays a realistic shot to close that 13-game gap with the Red Sox, probably within a week.
