Blue Jays/Mariners in Vancouver?

Post#1 » by Kaizen » Fri Aug 19, 2011 9:36 pm

Tonight, the Blue Jays and Mariners will begin a three-game series at Safeco Field in downtown Seattle. They should be playing 150 miles to the north – at BC Place in Vancouver, B.C.

Thoughts?

I think this is a terrible idea. You would never see a team like the Yankees or Red Sox do this so I do not think we should either.

The Sox and Yankees also sell a lot more tickets then the Jays or Mariners do. I think it depends on if there is a quality stadium in Vancouver and obviously if there is high enough demand. me

They should start off with an exhibition game and see how that goes.

Would it be Seattle's home or Toronto's? Geographycally, it should be Seattle's but, knowing at least 80% of the attendance would be cheering for the Jays, I'm not sure if they'd like the idea especially if the Mariners contend.

As a Mariners home game, it's fine - expanding their geography into a nearby baseball friendly market; kind of like the Bills playing in Toronto, but less blatantly stupid.

As a Jays home game, it's dumb - we're not a barnstorming team, and Vancouver is three time zones away.

Didn't the presence of Brett Lawrie double the attendance in Seattle for the last series compared to one earlier in the year?
