Thread title says it all. Go ahead, flame away and tell me why this is a horrible idea, I can take it. :)

If we're looking to compete, I think it's yucky. I don't think anyone knows what he is and what, if any, value he can provide at the major league level. With his lack of experience he could get exposed.

We need a bona fide middle-of-the-order hitter at first base if we're to have any hopes of competing. Loewen possesses just twelve career plate appearances, and he'd need to be able to carry a major league OPS equivalent to the one he posted in a AAA hitters' haven this year to the majors. Immediately. And even that wouldn't be ideal...his OPS in AAA is sixty points below that of Fielder, and Fielder is a month younger than Loewen.

Keep Loewen as 4th outfield/back up first base/platoon with Encarnacion at dh next year(unless we sign a better DH).

I wouldn't stick anyone that made the catch he made against the Red Sox at 1b long term. He belongs in the outfield with the amount of ground he covers and strong arm it would go to waste playing at first.

If we can't sign a superstar first baseman this offseason, I would rather see Loewen and Cooper play first than Lind though.

No. What makes anybody think Adam Loewen can hit at the major league level?

It's highly unlikely Cooper or Loewen will be the regular 1B. And if 1B is a R/L platoon next year and Lind is still here, it's also highly unlikely Cooper or Loewen supplant Lind as the lefty bat in said platoon.

I really don't see AA going after Fielder or Pujols. He'd have to overpay, likely massively, and that's just not his style (thankfully!). I think the Jays are closer to competing then their current record indicates, and they don't need to solve all their problems (one being, no doubt, lack of a huge 1B bat) to get there. Fixing the bullpen gets you just as far as another big bat, IMO.

tor a. loewen? no, no, no.

hard to sell the idea to even the casual fan that this team is serious about contending by doing this let alone the fan who actually understands what is going on. lind remaining at first and blaming his extreme struggles on some sort of injury which didn't really happen makes more sense unfortunately.
