Is it likely he'll take some of the other front office staff with him? I've read that a few times lately.

Beeston is set to leave after 2012, why doesn't Rogers give Alex Beeston's job and give LaCava the GM job like they're doing in Chicago with Epstein and Hoyer.

Why would we move one of the best decision-making GMs in the league into another position and replace him with a guy who we didn't think was as good as him at said position in the first place?

I imagine AA would still have primary decision-making authority.

Then whats the point for LaCava? The GM is the one who builds the team, not the President. Beeston isn't the one working the phones trying to make trades, or deciding who gets called up.

not all organizations need to have the same predefined roles for each job title. Theo Epstein even though he has the title of President will be more involved on teh baseball side of things than the Business, i don't think Hoyer will be anymore involved in everyday baseball operations than Epstein. Alex can still concentrate on baseball decisions and work alongside LaCava as a partner while having the ultimate say in decisions, Rogers can hire a CEO to worry about the business side of things and managing the Rogers centre.

LaCava gets more responsibilities, power, money and a job title that earns him respect around the league and we get to keep our 2nd more important guy in the front office. I don't think he'd mind playing second fiddle to Alex if get more power and money, its probably better than being the #1 guy as a GM in Baltimore trying to a manage a team that is going nowhere and working alongside a dumb ass owner.

Anything that removes Beeston from the picture would be a great thing, but that's not going to happen.

Why move AA from the GM title..... make Lacava President. He probably like being known as AA's boss around the league, talk about respect and get a big pay raise too. AA still handles the team like now.

Beaston can go guide the Orioles to world series for all I care...

O's fans think they are hiring him too and some are very happy. I was hoping O's would hire somebody terrible like JP. Disappointing to lose somebody who appears to be very important to AA and other people who know him better than me.

Ash was nothing like Gillick, Ricciardi was nothing like Beane, AA is nothing like Ricciardi (thank god), etc. Hard to say what type of GM LaCava would be based on who he worked under, but he deserves a chance and the O's are smart to go after him rather than a retread.

Why the disdain for Beeston?
