Blue Jays & Tigers waiting in the wings for CC

"The Jays would love to sign Sabathia to team him up with their current ace, Ricky Romero. Signing Sabathia would also tell Toronto’s fan base that the franchise is once again ready to go head-to-head with “the big boys” of the American League East."

This would be the best moment post 1993 for any Blue Jay fan. I can only imagine the NYY fanbase going crazy.

It would certainly be the biggest F.U. moment in baseball in quite a while, but I just don't see it happening.

More than any other free agent, I'd rather spend our money on CC. It would make the Jays significantly better and also be a devastating blow to NYY.

It would be more than a bit odd to get rid of Roy Halladay and spend way more on another ace a few years later, though.

Sabathia would be a great signing, but I can't see 1) him leaving the Yankees, and 2) Rogers spending $25+ million a year on him for the next 6-7 years.

And yes, the Jays already had the best pitcher in baseball but decided to punt two straight seasons (2009, 2010) instead of spending money to win with him, so it would be odd to add another ace for way more money after getting rid of a better one who would have signed for less if the team was competitive.

I'd be shocked if we spent more than 65M on one player, tbh. but yeah, CC would be my # 1 target as well.

Money wasn't an issue with Roy. He just wanted to play in the post-season.

Is AA willing to give up 1st round pick?

The MLB has got to change it's compensation rule.
This sound fair:

Type-A = 1A + 2A
Type-B = 1A (after all type-A picks)

This way no body has to give up a pick.

Yes, but I think that it's fair to say that our rebuild is way more advanced than anyone could have foreseen a few years ago. Bautista/Romero/Lawrie/Morrow/our farm/shedding Wells' deal/etc. have put us back in a position to make moves to contend (I would say 2 years earlier than could have been expected).

Outside of Pujols, CC would be the biggest and most impactful move we could make. Odds of it happening... less than 1%.

imo toronto would gladly throw 30 mill at pujols, 25 for cc, or 20 for darvish...just the matter if they choose tor or not

CC's opting out tonight...might as well throw all your money at him and see what happens. He'd be a better $100+M investment than Darvish.

So he's walking from 4/90 and is looking for Cliff Lee's 5/120 as a starting point, isn't that right?

He's worth it.

I agree with you from a fan standpoint. From an investment-revenue generating standpoint I tihnk Rogers could potentially rather have Darvish no?

cc will probably cost 50 mill more than yu and will be 32 next year, his recent years hasn't even been as gd as romero...with darvish just entering the prime of his pitching years, i'd much rather throw 100-120 at him, he will also attract fans and mite even put up better numbers than cc over the years

He's a lower risk investment. You know what you're getting with CC & it sends a message & it instantly knocks NYY down a peg (who'll be their ace if they don't get CJ? Nova?).

I'd rather overpay for CC and sacrifice whatever Darvish's ceiling is and whatever revenue he'll attract because any move that makes your team much stronger right away AND hurts one of your biggest rivals is perfect.

Hell, if Ellsbury were an FA I'd say give him 30M.

I'm just a casual baseball fan still learning the details, but why is he so damn expensive? I looked at some of his raw stats, but it doesn't look THAT impressive compared to the league leaders.

As of the weekend, CC hadn't opted out.
