Interest in Jurrjens?

I wanted to see what the board's interest would be in Jair Jurrjens. Atlanta seems willing to trade him for salary relief/prospects
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/11/braves-open-to-trading-jurrjens-prado.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29He is a 25 year old Pitcher, and was the top pitcher in the NL in the first half of the season (terrible second half though). Any idea what the asking price would be? (prospects, major leaguers, etc?)

Won't be cheap, but a likely target for AA. Braves will definitely want the value of Jurrgens projected at him being one of the better arms in the NL when it is debatable if he indeed is. Shouldn't cost as much as what Cleveland gave up for Ubaldo but Atlanta would be eying 3 good prospects from us I'd imagine, probably Alvarez. I'd be open to making a big deal in this case if they were willing to include Heyward, but unless he was the only player of value going over I wouldn't be using any major league ready prospects outside of Snider or Thames to get this done.
Young pitcher with a lot of upside, but let's not forget that Atlanta is trying to move him; no point in selling the farm at this point.

I wouldn't trade Alvarez for Jurrjens - they seem similar to me. RH and not many K's per 9... though I guess Jurrjens is more of a FB type. Also I feel that would not be a big positive move towards building the rotation - it makes more sense to trade from our glut in OF.
The article mentions the Braves wanting a power-hitting OF or a new shortstop coming back in the trade. I can think of several OF which fit into that category (Thames, Snider) as well as a young shortstop in the minors....

What's with the love for Jair Jurrjens? I don't get it? Are you expecting him to be a #1 here?

I don't think anyone is expecting him to be an ace. He would be a piece of the rotation though and we could use some help there.

Jurrjens is 25 years old, safe to say he has yet to truly hit his ceiling. If the price is right, a chance to get a guy that projects to be a legit #2-3 starter doesn't come everyday.

I would be open to trading for him but not giving them a huge return, hes a #3 starter in the AL east at best, I would trade Hech and one of our 4/5th starters or Hech and a OF prospect.

He was a solid prospect from the start, so he didnt just fluke.... dominated first half of 2011 and was all-star at the age of 25
The guys seems legit. No one said he is an ace "yet", but after looking at the last 2 season and and his age, how can not give him a chance as a potential ace, seriously.
He is also the kind of guy AA would go after. Young and high ceiling potential.... but he wont get a Rasmus type dea here. Gotta hand over some decent prospects.
Im all for it though.. Jurrjans and Romero would be solid 1-2 for now

Not sure I would be happy with only getting Jurrjens back in return for Hech. In terms of upside, it doesn't seem close.
He doesn't have a high stikeout rate, which for me is a huge turn-off and indicates that his stuff is so-so. I agree that he still has the potential to be quite good though

your not gonna get a player like him for scraps.... this isent the Rasmus deal again.
You gotta give up something sometime too. Hech is great, but he is expendable for obvious reason, while Jurrjens is a top-of-rotation pitcher, which JAYS lack.
If Atlanta wants only Hech, AA will jump at the chance... Unfortunately they'll alittle more

Jurrjens would be a perfect target for AA like others have said. Good player with plenty of upside, but not a player we would throw a bunch of our prospects at. I would also look at Prado like the wiretap says and maybe Heyward if hes available. Suprised Atlanta wants to get rid of him, I would figure they would be trying to improve their pitching if anything.

If we're going to target a Braves pitcher, I'd be much more interested in Minor or Beachy.

Jair Jurrjens is far from a top of the rotation pitcher, i'm not sure he's even a #4/5 starter in the AL Beast. There's a reason the Braves are looking to trade him, his velocity is down and that could be due to an underlying health issue, his ERA is a fluke and when it comes to xFIP hhe's hasn't made any significant progress since he came to the bigs. The Braves know all of that and they're trying to find a sucker(like Dayton Moore who seems to be interested) who's gonna give them an elite prospect because of Jurrjens' flashy ERA.

Do not want the overrated Jurrjens, nor do I think AA will target somebody with his kind of stuff. If he has mediocre peripherals in the NL East (career 6.15 K/9, 3.10 BB/9, 0.73 HR/9), he'd get eaten alive in the AL East.

I'd be very interested in Beachy especially. But with acquiring Beachy or Minor comes risk. Both were rookies last year and you don't really know what you're going to get with either of them next season. Both could take a step forward in develop or regress. Jurrjens when healthy is a shurefire thing.

LOL @ surefire thing. Or he's a guy that lost significant velocity last year and now throws below 90 mph

I'd have interest in Jurrjens or Prado, but I would be very very wary about trading with Schuerholz. I know that's where Escobar came from, but with John you set a price and wait. You aren't likely to make that many deals, 'cause he'll find more eager fish, but I certainly wouldn't chase Jurrjens with quality prospects if the Braves are trying to get out from under. They've got a pretty good record of identifying the pitchers they should keep.

Yeah I think they see his velocity is dropping and are worried.
Here's a fangraphs article about Jurrjens:
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/jurrjens-isnt-worth-a-top-prospect/The conclusion is pretty harsh on him
The Braves are shopping Jurrjens with the luxury of saying that they are trying to make room for their young studs on the farm, which is probably a true statement. But it could also be they are shopping him because he is damaged goods, and that’s not good for potential trade partners. If he is healthy — and I would want my medical team to get a look at him for a physical before signing off on any trade — Jurrjens might regain what he once had, but what he once had wasn’t all that spectacular, and his current statistical profile of a league-average pitcher is the one he is likely to retain going forward. That does have value in a pitching-thin free agent market, but anyone looking to trade for Jurrjens with the hope that he is going to dominate — and gives up elite prospects commensurate with such a hope — is taking an awful risk, one that is not justified by anything other than blind faith.

There were articles during the season and responses to that very article indicating that he developed a 2-seamer from Venters to induce more contact and ground balls at the expense of velocity and strikeouts. The velocity doesn't worry me as much as him just being ridiculously overrated. His health is concerning too.
