AA: I don't see us being able to add a big bat

AA on adding big bat: "I don't know how possible that would be and right now I don't see us being able to do that but things could change."

Unless he's playing coy, perhaps we should adjust our expectations for the off-season. It doesn't look as though a bit bat is a priority at the moment -- or if it is, AA hasn't been given the means ($$) to acquire one.

Welp, I'm ready for another 4th placed mediocre year in the AL East. How about you guys?

I'll take this as a sign that AA is going hard at Yu Darvish.

Why do you think it's going to be a 4th placed mediocre year? Ye of little faith. This team is still good, and got better with hopefully a lock down closer.

However, Pujols left because he felt slighted that he wasn't being paid as the best player in the game. Perhaps egos do make a play in these decisions..who knows.

Nope, I'm not going to adjust my expectations at all - Rogers is just going to fail my expectations. There is a BIG difference between 'possible' (it's 100% possible to add a big bat) and 'willing'. Just because they don't WANT to spend the money for a big bat, doesn't mean they CAN'T.

For years, they've promised us that when the time is right, they'd be willing to spend. They talked about a payroll between 120-150M.

The time is right, they made their promise. If they don't spend, they'll be exposed as liars; a trust will be broken.

Simple as that.

I'm just being realistic. I know the offseason isn't over and there are still moves to be made, but I have no confidence at the moment that this team is going to be any better than 4th place next season. The Rays might slip a bit and we finish 3rd, but we have no shot at toppling the Yankees or Red Sox the way we seem to be operating. We're trying to catch lightning in a bottle and that's tough to do in the AL East especially now with the new draft rules.

I really, really want to be proven wrong.

Pitching was the major weakness last year. I don't really care if we don't go out and spend 20+ on Prince.

This.

It's not about Fielder, it's about the message it sends about the direction of the team.

As much as I want to get Fielder and think that we should be spending the money to do it (in theory), I think it's getting to the point where he has so much leverage that his contract is going to be too large to justify and eventually become a burden on the signing team.

Given the deal Pujols got, the fact that Texas lost Wilson and needs to compete with LAA, the Marlins lost out on both of their targets, (plus the Cubs/ST.L, etc all seeming to need to do something) I think Fielder is going to get too large a deal. LAA coming out of nowhere, really screwed a lot of teams.

I'm o.k., to a certain extent, losing out on Fielder if he gets what he's likely to get.

I have wanted us to spend and think that we should, but the more time passes, maybe AA is right. Maybe we are not yet ready. I'm really torn on the issue but I do have faith in AA and I think there is an actual plan. Maybe it's a good thing that he isn't letting this unexpected, accellerated rebuild change his plans. It was mentioned in another thread, but we are much further along than anyone would have predicted 2 years ago when we dealt Doc. I'm willing to be a bit more patient.

p.s. But I do want Darvish and think there is no reason to not get him.

Wow, just wow...Not sure what to say at this point. Well guess we can expect another 120+ walks from Bautista. Man I only pray to God that Lind, Snider and especially Rasmus improve next year. If not the offense is gonna be dog **** next year.

Wonder when Bautista will run out of patience. He's been really outspoken over the past year(especially about the amount of walks he had to take last season) and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

impotent owners are the biggest cancer for any sports franchise.

I sure hope he's saying it but actually has a move up his sleeve. Like before trading for Rasmus and after Rasmus saying we won't make any other trades before trade deadline.

It's ok, I don't see myself going to any games and that definitely won't change.

As long as they are happy collecting massive pay from overpriced cable packages that would only fly in Canada. MLSE is not as huge as Rogers financially and they are made up of a bunch of groups put together and is not a more single entity like Rogers.. but at lease MLSE has shown they are willing to spend the dough if they feel like it would be a good signing. And they are willing to do that with 3 major sports franchises (TFC, Leafs, Raptors). Rogers are cheaping out on 1 sports franchise (Jays) while making billions more than MLSE per year on monopolized Canadian telecom that MLSE does on tons of different business ventures.

Yea you can tell I hate Rogers (the company) with a passion.
