I honestly don't think we're interested in him, it's just Heyman putting our name in there because we have the money (that we'll never spend).

Us and the cubs don't really want to go over 5-yrs, so we could potentially still be in the mix, but the mariners could prolly throw a wrench into the plans by paying him whatever he wants b/c they're desperate

We are definitely in the running.
Maybe we legitimately were not at outset, but it appears that Prince will not get the value that he was looking for. The Jays will not be stupid enough to pass on Prince if it costs them 2/3 what they thought he would get. It is still a longshot, But Prince may have to take a 5 year deal at this point or go to Seattle.

I think we are crazy not to be interested.
If he signs for anything under 6 years 20M/year I'll be upset if its not the Jays. That being said I know AA has a line in the sand and won't cross it. I think that's the right approach to take.
I either want the Jays to sign him for a reasonable contract or laugh at the team who overpays and has to wait out next FA.

Doesn't it make sense for a guy like Fielder to come to east so he can get some bats at DH. I mean I don't know too much about his defence, i'm just a casual fan, but would it be better if he was platooned at 1st and not their everyday. Especially say 4-5-6 yrs from now??

Wonder if Boras will get any heat for making Prince wait this process out. Seems to have played himself out of the market. Which is good news for the Jays.

Yeah, I think the market for Fielder right now is really weak. I don't think the Jays' interest in Fielder is that high, but I do think they're still in the running because their mid-interest is still higher than about 25+ other teams.
It seems as though the Cubs and Mariners are the only teams really pursuing him now, and if that's the case, I guess the Jays could be third on that list. But who knows, another team might change their mind, jump right in and snatch him up, like the Angels did with Pujols.

I know AA keeps on stating publicly that a "big bat" is definitely something they need. There were rumours about Quentin, whom is only a medium bat with an "average" average.
I just hope that AA doesn't go all cheap on us like JP Retardi did with Delgado.
I remember when I got my first house, my realtor kept on pressing me and my wife that we shouldn't let a few thousand (in the Jays language..."a few million") get in the way of buying a/the house we really like. The reason being, that we would only regret it and wish that we ponied up for the better house.
I fear that AA's frugal reasonableness will cause both himself and the Jays fans to regret this offseason for several years if we don't jump on the Fielder train soon.

Boras is fine with a weak market, it means he's set the bar just right for his player; right at the absolute peak amount where only a handful are interested at the price and he just has to convince one to keep coming and hit his number. If he had a heavy market for his client, he'd probably hold a presser to make it clear his number had gone way up for whatever reason. He only needs one team and his mystery teams can be used to keep them bidding against themselves. It's my fundamental problem with free agency, that it only takes 1/30 to make a serious mistake to continually drive the market higher and there's always 1/30 GMs either stupid or desperate enough, or just flat out hoodwinked by a more devious and experienced agent, to make that mistake.

Hah, try bidding for a house in Toronto. I quickly learned that the "fair market value" concept we were taught in university economics actually means "what the biggest idiot is willing to spend" in the real world.
I like the way AA put it recently, that if you win a bidding war for a free agent, then the guy is automatically untradeable because you're the only team who thought he was worth that much. From that perspective, AA would never let himself or the team be drawn into getting Fielder. It would be completely antithetical to his value-oriented mindset.
But it's his own fault that the Fielder/Darvish sweepstakes have become a symbolic litmus test for whether Rogers is "serious about winning" or not. If he had just kept Napoli ...
