Jays Re-Acquire Jason Frasor from the White Sox

Post#1 » by ThaFlash » Sun Jan 1, 2012 6:40 pm

According to the twitter Mike Cormack of sportsnet.ca the Jays have re-acquired Jason Frasor from the White Sox.

BREAKING: #jays re-acquire Jason Frasor from #whitesox for right-handed pitchers Myles Jaye and Daniel Webb.

What are your thoughts on this? Personally I like this move, although Jason could be frustrating at times, he is a good player.

I think its a great deal! Jason is a solid player and those two minor leaguers are really unheard of. The baseball writers on twitter also say its a solid deal for the Jays. Thats another deal that the jays have won against chicago

Oh let's salivate over a trade win instead of real wins.

Fact is, he's an aging, increasingly irrelevant reliever who had a 5.07 ERA with Chicago and will cost $3.7 million. It's not a bad deal, it fills a spot in the bullpen, but it's rather inconsequential.

Are you turning into the resident grump? Frasor never got comfortable in Chicago. He's always loved Toronto, married a Toronto girl and was one of the Jays reliable relievers. It's a minor move, but bolsters the bullpen, something the Jays needed to do.

Solid move pen looks really solid now didn't give up anything that matters. Makes the Rasmus trade look even better now.

Bullpen could be rock solid. With Internal improvements, Jays could easily be better than the rays but if AA addresses the middle of the order bat and a top/middle of the rotation starter spots, we could have a contender on our hands.

i concur (to all points. hah!). you're contradicting yourself, Dags. its usually "the Jays are so cheap!" and now you're pointing out that he's making $3.7 mil. as Dagger once said: its not your money, so who cares how much he costs.

Frasor was really upset to leave toronto. he evolved into what he is: a solid mid-relief guy.
perfect move and the bullpen's looking improved over last year.

all they need to do is get another top pitcher and sign Fielder and the Jays can call it a day.

This definitely means we will see Carreno back as a starter at AAA. I think this will be the last major move for the off season unless AA can make a trade for a starter but with the asking price for some of these guys it might make more sense to wait until the season starts to make a move.

More minor tinkering, but still waiting on impact moves. If the Pads can swipe Quentin for a bunch of scraps I'm sure AA has something planned... right?

Dagger is hijacking all the threads - I'm sick of it. Please stick to the Raps board and post your crap there. Thank you.

your commentary isn't required. let the mods moderate, good sir. Yogi

Santos (R)
Oliver (L)
Janssen (R)
Frasor (R)
Villaneuva (R)
Litsch (R)
Perez (L)

That's the 2012 Blue Jays bullpen folks.

Carreno can be a good insurance if someone gets injured, and he will get a chance to be a starter in the future. It's a really good move to bring back Frasor.

I was kind of looking forward to not seeing JFra come out of the bullpen this year...

This must be the end of the line for guys like Farina, Farquhar, and Magnuson (not all obviously). With Oliver and Laffey they were already gonna be at 41.

Only thing I don't like is that Frasor makes it much more likely Carreno starts in AAA (it'll be the same argument about options). Having extra arms is important, but Carreno looked ready and is gonna be the odd man out if they come with Santos, Janssen, Litsch, Frasor, Villanueva, Oliver, and Perez. Unless a guy like Litsch or Villanueva take a rotation spot anyway.

I thought the loser of the Cecil/Drabek/McGowan "3 men - 2 spots" would end up in the pen. Now looks like he ends up in AAA. McGowan would have to clear waivers thou AFAIK.
I would hope that we can fit in Carreno and run an 8-man pen. We gotta find a way to dump Teahen thou to clear space on the 25-man. I wonder if we can stash Valbuena in AAA.

Also wasn't Frasor going to be a Type B if his option was not picked up? That type B would have probably been a much better prospect then these two guys. Strange move by Williams. Maybe the "blow it up" edict just came recently (I thought it came right at the end of the season).

You guys think that since the Sox are dumping salaray it may be the perfect time for AA to go after Danks and his new contract or Gavin Floyd?
