Koby Clemens, son of seven-time Cy Young Award Roger Clemens, has signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays organization.

"When it came down to it he signed with the Blue Jays," said Roger Clemens in an interview with FOX 26 Sports.

"There were a handful of teams looking at him, and we just had to be patient and see where the cards would fall.

"It'll be a good change for Koby. He'll just get out there and show them what he's got and see if he can continue to chase his dreams."

Koby Clemens was drafted by the Houston Astros in the eighth round of the 2005 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft.

Last season at the Astros' Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City Koby Clemens hit .234 with 16 home runs and 55 RBIs.

The Astros chose not to re-sign him after he became a free agent following the 2011 season.

"With how long it took, with all the free agents that were still out there and the waiting game, it was all new to me," said Koby Clemens. "So I'm just relieved and excited that one of the few teams that was interested in me giving me a great opportunity and I'm looking forward to getting out there and showing the Toronto Blue Jays organization what I can do."

Clemens has been in the Astros organization since 2005.

His father has played for both the Blue Jays and the Astros.

"It's going to be a new experience because I've known only the Astros organization my whole minor league professional career," Koby Clemens said.

"Like you said a little bit of nervousness, but more excitement more than anything, just because it's going to be a little new and different, but I'm excited and I feel ready."

Koby Clemens has played third base, catcher, left field and first base in the Astros organization.

Why wouldn't it have? It's not like we have any chance of making the playoffs those years.

Getting a star at a huge position of need without having to give up any prospects, allowing you to trade those prospects or develop them to get better players around the star, and then making the playoffs, does increase attendance. Basically, making the team better will improve attendance. Turns out that "stars" are usually really good baseball players, and really good baseball players will make the team better.

Yeah, if you can't hack it as even a hanger-on prospect in the Astros organization, you're only value is that now there's a spot that doesn't need to be filled and if you'll carry a prized arms bags, then that's a bonus.

On a sidenote, how **** godawful terrible is this return for a guy with consecutive CYs and like 20WAR over the period: Homer Bush, Graeme Lloyd, David Wells?

That's **** horrifyingly bad. I know there were weird circumstances, but even if you accept the idea Wells would be happy leaving NY and would continue to pitch at the same level, the Yanks literally got twice the production out of one spot and all it cost was Bush and Lloyd? Freaking absolutely terrible deal.

Just like in '98 when we had Clemens leading us to 88 wins when we were in it until September and finished 2nd in the WC Race behind Boston (4 games back) and attendance went up...
