It does... I'm battling it myself right now. Thankfully my prognosis is alot better than his.

RIP, Gary. He was always one of my favourites as a kid because my dad has the same first name. Carter, Raines, Dawson... too bad we did not have interleague back then. Those guys against Bell, Barfield, Tony, and Stieb? Would have been awesome.

I'm sorry to hear that! I wish you all the best and I'm glad your prognosis is much better!

I wish people would stop dying...

Then maybe everyone would stop saying "Rest in Peace"

Seems like such a pointless thing to say

It was just a matter of time, but at least he's not in pain anymore. Jay glad to hear you're on the mend.

Same here. The world is a little more drab now that he's gone.

Yeah, my first - and worst - baseball memories as a kid are the late 1970's, early 80's Expos. That team had a lot of talent, but Carter was the kind of superstar that legitimizes you in the US media. A Vince Carter type. Except Gary Carter was a winner. Did anyone else from that team ever win anything? Jeff Reardon was hurt at a critical time. Does Francona count?

Side note, but it's interesting that Bill Simmons is comparing Linsanity to Fernandomania. Everyone blames Rick Monday, but Valenzuela loomed even larger on that fateful day in 1981. Carter led the Expos with an OPS > 1.000 for the five-game series, and was 1 for 3 with a walk in Game 5. Dodgers went on to surprise the much-stronger Yankees after Winfield's epic choke job (1 for 22). It could have been, should have been the Expos. "The team of the 80s".

Rest in peace, Gary. Whether or not you were a "fake" in your public persona, you thrilled and inspired millions of people, and your kids loved you. What else matters?
