Travis Snider Optioned To Minors

Post#1 » by ThaFlash » Sun Mar 25, 2012 9:00 pm

According to Gregor Chisholm Eric Thames has won the battle for left field and Snider has been optioned. Some other players have been optioned as well.

#BlueJays Snider has been optioned to the Minors.

#BlueJays Gomes, Diaz and Woodward also have been returned to Minor League camp. Cooper's also been optioned.

Never was a battle, really. Just trade Snider to a team that will actually give him at-bats already.

Expected. Snider was hitting for power but his strikeouts numbers were still huge and he still can't hit or lay off of breaking pitches. Until he figures out those holes in his swing he's never going to be able to stick in the majors for long.

Mottola's apparently a good hitting coach so hopefully he does figure it out.

Yea thats true i guess, Snider had a good spring though. But then again so did Thames. Jon Morosi of Fox sports was also saying that the Jays should trade Snider too, and that he deserves a fresh start

Thames was pretty much our best hitter through spring training. It's hard to beat an incumbent when you're striking out >30% of the time and he's playing the best ball of his life.

I think we'll see Snider moved off somewhere. He'll be alright but he's never going to be an all-star player that we all hoped he would be because of the strikeouts.

What starting pitcher do you guys think we could get for Snider or for a package with Snider?

I like the kid, personally, but he is just too flawed at the plate. He will be a major leaguer.... maybe even have a Mark Reynolds type career. But his HRs will lead to him being overpaid vs. what he is worth. He won't be a value player ever, so I doubt AA has much faith in him anymore.

So what do we do? Let's send him, yet again, to an environment where breaking pitches don't really break (PCL)

I'm with Schad.... This same organization that found a whack of at bats for Rivera and Patterson last year, and inexplicably continues to find them for Lind, but yet can't find any for Snider? Just trade him already and let's move on.

I'd prefer him to stay up as well along with Thames and play above a guy like Francisco, but the team's not willing to do that for whatever reason.

Its time to trade Snider AA is not stupid he knows just as well as we do who has more upside and he clearly doesn't think Snider can be an everyday big league player. (note I think hes horribly wrong) None the less its clear and its time to move him.

What is the most we could get for Snider at this point in his career.

I could see us packaging Snider + Cecil + Johnson.

I don't think the Jays should trade Snider just because he was optioned to AAA. AA always talks about wanting to make sure guys don't need to be sent back down once they reach the majors. It's pretty clear they're not convinced Snider is at that point yet. And obviously now, next time he gets called up, they have no choice.

I'm sure he was sent down with the intent of hopefully dominating the PCL which will hopefully build up his trade value.

Por fin!

Now we can look forward to a long thread with the following themes:

* To whom he should be traded

* With whom he should be traded

* For whom he should be traded

Substitute 'will' for 'should.' It's over.

I don't mind it, I think Thames makes more sense in the MLB for this year than Snider.

I expect it will be Chicago. Although not in exchange for Garza. He'll go to the White Sox, with a few others, in return for Gavin Floyd.

Bet it.

It was brought up over the off season but a deal centering around Travis Snider for Jon Niese makes sense for both clubs especially with Cecil/McGowan not looking 100% adding Niese as the 4th/5th starter makes the back end a lot more stable.

Don't trade under performing players (especially young ones) for over performing ones. First of all the GM will call you crazy and second of all "buy low, sell high" doesn't work. Personally it makes more sense to trade Bautista than Snider.

I hope we don't trade Snider, I think 5 years down the road Snider and the club will be happy he played a full year with consistent AB's in a hitters league. Tell him to work on walking more/striking out less and let him Lawrie AAA.

To me, Snider is still the LFer of the future, but it makes more sense for him to work out his problems in AAA and come up a new player. This is the best possible move for now and the future.

send Snider to Vegas.
glue both his batting gloves to the bat, preventing him from doing the 1-hand follow through on his swing.
let him practice that for a month.
by that point, we'll see if Thames is the real deal.

I hope your right, (for the record don't think Niese is over preforming I really like him and think he will continue to improve) at this point I just don't see what more he can do at AAA. I hope Snider figures it out but as of now I don't see it happening in Toronto perhaps things change between now and July but as of right now.... Just don't see it.
