Should I bet a lot of money on the Jays?

The Jays are looking real good and for the past 3 season I have always been saying Jays have great future. I may be biased but I honestly feel like they will do well either this year or next. What do you think?

Invest it in bonds or something. You are way more likely to make money. Betting almost never works out.

I put $40 on the Jays over 81.5 at +105. Should make the year more interesting and I was happy with the odds. I wouldn't want to bet lots of money on anything, but if you have money to blow, I say go in on the Jays.

i rarely suggest betting on the most hyped team, youre never gonna get the odds you should. usually you bet against those teams. like last year betting against boston was easy. jays were great value last year too they were like 70 wins.

The over on the Jays is a pretty good bet. I don't know how they could possibly finish below .500 this year, beyond injuries.

I think the Jays will be good why not throw some money on it for them to win the world series they win you win but I wouldn't put up anything I am not willing to lose.

STFU, wrong forum. Know your stuff bro, this guy was talking about a sports bet. That usually means somewhere between 25-100$ for a normal person.

You put that in this business market, and your not making much, if you don't lose it outright. Not to mention the admin fees.

Bit of a homer, but I put down 50$ on Jays making the World Series. Was a bit surprised at the odds, only 35/1 (8th best chance). Thought it would be more like 60/1

Normally I really don't like the idea of betting on one's team, because you tend to be willing to make the bet as odds that really aren't all that favourable, and it sucks twice as badly when it doesn't come in. That said, I've been a fan of the soccer club Southampton FC in England for a while, and as the English love betting on sports, many of their fans laid money on various things this season...the Saints to win the league, their best striker to lead the league in goals, and their arch-rivals to get relegated, and generally all three. All silly bets before the season; now some of them stand to make rather enormous amounts of money if the last six games go to form, as all of those things are happening, so perhaps betting your heart every once in a while isn't such a terrible thing after all.

It also really depends what you're betting on them to do. The over-under at 83 wins looks pretty good to me (with the caveat that I don't really bet on sports anymore), but poking around, I'm seeing lines between 11/1 and 14/1 on the Jays to win the AL East outright, and that's bad value, IMO; seems that odds-makers are aware that they're trendy after Spring Training, and it's hard to conceive of them besting the Sox/Rays/Yanks over 162 games yet.

Now, betting on them to win the World Series might be better value, simply because the playoffs can be a bit of a tossup. Looks like their odds are far longer with American agencies, which makes sense, but the odds in Canada aren't great at all...30/1 on Bodog actually kinda sucks, and I'd be tempted to put some money on the Rays at 20/1.

Your right. Gambling > Investing.

You know what, everybody do this:
1) Sell your house
2) Bet on the Jays

Lucky seems to think this is a successful business model. Put your kids education funds on this team too.

The person you flipped out at said $25-100. I doubt very much that when the OP said "a lot of money", he's talking about a life-altering sum...we're talking about a team that would have repaid roughly zero futures bets placed on them other than the o/u over the past nineteen years, and in that context any significant number is really a lot of money to commit to faith in their success.

not only do you sound snobby, but pretty foolish. clearly theres context to "a lot of money". one would imagine he meant in the context of spending some money on long-term online sports gambling - not buying a house.

Just chiming in to agree with flatjacket. The overall context of this thread is whether wagering "a lot of money" - which could easily mean $1,000 - on the Jays is a good decision. Flatjacket's first post nailed it, and lucky's response was pure douchebaggery. Here's a (non-betting) tip: any post that begins "STFU" is problematic - at best.

Additional context, flatjacket provides a lot of value to this board. Lucky not so much. Make of that what you will.
