Jays in Playoffs?

Aaron Boone and Jayson Stark both pick Blue Jays to win one of the Wild Card spots. First time in I don't know how long they jays are actually picked to make post season. Even though its only 2 out of the 20+ that picked. Stark is surprisingly high on the jays.

06 some said they'd compete, and to their credit, they did.

well, it's certainly a possibility, but it's a long shot. if our pitching is solid, we'll at least be in the hunt. but a few untimely injuries and we could be in big trouble. i suppose you could say the same thing about most clubs, but i think we really need to overachieve on all fronts to even have a chance.

I think it is more possible than most do. Maybe not probable without some internal development and luck, but definitely possible. This is a good team, or at least they should be.

I think with so many young and potentially volatile parts it's unlikely they can make it into the postseason this year. The talent is potentially there to compete, but too many things have to break postiively compared to the other contenders to think it's a safe bet, which isn't to say I think it's impossible at all.
And really, the simple fact that the bar for the Jays to stay in the hunt is for them to be within shooting distance of a 90 game win pace instead of 95 means we're going to have a much more interesting year than we're used to, so actually make it should be the icing on top anyway.
Still, just look at the top 4 rotations we'd need to catch one of (in no order that's LAA, TB, NYY, TEX) and short of some really catastrophic injury problems to any of those, I'm not sure how you can predict TOR finishing ahead of any of them. And then there's still BOS to consider and the fact the Jays'll play 71/162 against those 5 teams (77/162 if you include DET and throw in some tough interleague and it's easily more than half the season against the top 10 teams in baseball) and it's too much to expect of our exciting young core.
If they pull it off, it'll be enormous, but unless like 80% of the pitching question marks bounce the Jays way, it's going to be incredibly tough.

After RickRo the rotation scares the crap out of me.. Though i am glad they're going with younger guys and not stopgap types like Laffey or Reyes..

Like several other years, I think the potential is there. I'm certainly not expecting them to get in and I feel they'll have to get a somewhat lucky and overachieve to a degree if they're going to pull it off.
I'm happy they've shored up the bullpen a bit.

I think Morrow will have a better year than Romero tbh. Sure he had a breakout season last season but advanced stats have Romero doing worse than Morrow.
I still think Romero should be opening day starter and will have a decent season but he is more a solid #2 than a true #1 which Morrow CAN be.

I think we'll make it next year for sure with Gose and some more experience with this core. If we make it this year, it would be gravy.

Alvarez has shown some great stuff at spring training and Morrow has started to be consistent and more than likely be able to hold his own as the #2. But the #4 and #5 is worrisome though... Carreno is a big question mark while I havent been in tune with Triple AAA so I dont know how good Drabek is holding up. Looking at the boxscores of some spring training games, he still seems to have trouble. Hopefully, things turn out positively for the jays : )

I think there's about a 1/3 chance that we make the playoffs. It's not likely to happen but there's a strong possibility that it does happen.

Are you hinging our playoff aspirations on Anthony Gose,,, as a rookie?
I'd be somewhat surprised if he even made the team out of camp next year....

I still think they needed to add a hitter and a pitcher in the offseason to get in to the playoffs. It will just be too difficult for this group in this division.

The problem is the competition is insane. Are we going to beat TWO of NYY, BOS, TB, TEX, LAA?

I don't see us making playoffs this season, I would give us under a 5% chance.
I think we will have a much better season than last year, and 85 wins is within reach.

Theres LAA,NYY,BOS,TB,DET,TEX. Thats 6 teams. Theres only 5 playoff spots and the jays are not better than any of those 6 teams.

All you need is one to slip then, which is not that unlikely. Detroit is the only lock to me because of their terrible division. Obviously LAA and Texas are really good teams, but injuries can always happen

You'd need two of them to slip actually.
5 spots, 7 teams if you include the Jays.
