AA tells Sirius he's looking for "impact bat"

Post#1 » by dagger » Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:44 pm

I don't have any additional details, except from a Tweet yesterday, this is what he supposedly said. So it will be interesting to see what transpires between now and the trade deadline.

If only there had been impact bats on the market in the offseason.

Better not be Adam Dunn. We should take a gamble that Morneau is back into form.

What about Justin Morneau?

Reasons why:
- Fills a position that we're getting below average production
- Twins might be out of contention and looking to move his contract
- Morneau is a FA at the end of next year (Fits with AA's hesitancy to commit long-term)
- Canadian factor
- Price for potential production could be lower than other options given his health history

Why not:
-Health
-Ability to continue to field 1B

Say we deal Lind as filler + prospect package. Lind's salary would offset some of the money coming back from Morneau.

So say 9.5 Mill + 14 Mill for Morneau (23.5) - 3.3 + 5 Mil + 2 Mil Buyout for Lind (10.3) = only taking on 13.2 mil in salary over two years.

I wish Beltran wasn't so opposed to playing in T.o. Even Cespedes would look great in left instead of Thames

AA was on TSN Radio yesterday and was talking constantly about the trade market. I assumed he was talking about the starting rotation since that was the focus of the interview.

Could we possibly buy low on Eric Hosmer right now?
He's having an off year and this being his contract year.

Lind + filler (Cecil?) for Hosmer and Hochevar (Use as LR)
If Hosmer contiunes to suck this year offer him a cheap contract for next year with a team option for 2014, and hope he turns it around.

Seriously, get that Hosmer nonsense outta here. he is a potential MVP winner down the road. KC wouldn't even answer the phone on him. The fact you are offering up our trash for him makes it even funnier

I'm on board with this idea.

Yeah it's fun to dream, but there's no way KC even listens to that offer. Hosmer is 22 and was a first round pick. They won't give up on him because of 12 sub-par games.

You're crazy! KC would laugh at that trade followed by a flurry of insults headed our way.

I realize his contract is ridiculous, but man, it would be great to have Prince Fielder right about now...

Would they listen if we threw in Thames/and or Hech(As it seems like we're going with Escobar going forward) as the centerpiece? Then we can bring up Snider to replace Thames.

Thames/Lind/Cecil and/or Hech for Hosmer/Hochevar

I'm sure they'd stop listening at Hosmer no matter who we include.

At least your realize that it would set us back a lot to sign a guy like him.

I'd rather try something like Hech + Drabek + Thames for Heyward

I'm sorry but this is just as horrible as teh first idea. You don't understand how much people value Hosmer, would you trade Brett Lawrie for two part time platoon players, a LOOGY and a prospect who is probably never gonna hit in the majors.

At least your realize that it would set us back a lot to sign a guy like him.

The only big bats available will be players who play for non contenders and won't be under control for more than 1 to 2 seasons. This doesn't mean its a bad idea to look for one but you have to be careful in what you're giving up.

If you look through potential 2013 and 2014 free agents, the only fits i see are David Wright, Paul Konerko, Mark Reynolds, Adam Jones and Shin Soo Choo.

You can probably have Konerko and Reynolds for a so so prospect like Deck McGuire. David Wright and Shin Soo Choo will cost you two good prospects, probably somethign like Gose and Nicolino. Adam Jones will cost you Travis d'Arnaud and two good prospects, in reality Choo is a better player but Jones is seen as more valuable around the league for some reason.
