What a moron. When you have nothing intelligent to say, shut the hell up. Philly is like Paris if Paris got hit with a nuclear weapon maybe.

am i the only one who hated paris? london great, amsterdam great, rome great, etc etc. paris? obnoxious. im sure if youre not backpacking on a budget and you never leave the 5 blocks surrounding the louvre and eiffle tower its great, but the rest of the town is ghettos, gypsies/beggers and agressive strippers. just my humble opinion.

The best of Europe is outside of all the major cities...the main cities themselves are overpriced, and uptight.

I've been to Paris, and I've been to Philly, and Philly, you are not Paris unless we're talking about Paris Ontario.

yeah, its just you :)

Paris and Jerusalem are on my top 2 cities in the world list. Prague is probably #3.

didn't notice any beggars, didn't notice any strippers. the city is as far from ghetto as possible - the inner core of Paris is beyond affordable. most people who work in Paris stores come from the suburbs.

other than St Germain - the one street we hated - and the occasional waft of urine coming from the streets, its one of the best cities in the world. the food is incredible, the style is great, the city is beautiful, the women are really pretty and stylish and you can get around on a bike (!!!).

now, if i was a broke backpacker, would i love it as much? no. part of the fun is eating. but for 25 E a person, you get meals that would be 75 E in Toronto.

That reminded me of this: (sorry I tried to find a clip but no luck)

I wasn't like every other kid, you know, who dreams about being an astronaut, I was always more interested in what bark was made out of on a tree. Richard Gere's a real hero of mine. Sting. Sting would be another person who's a hero. The music he's created over the years, I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it, I respect that. I care desperately about what I do. Do I know what product I'm selling? No. Do I know what I'm doing today? No. But I'm here, and I'm gonna give it my best shot.

IMO, Avignon, Lyon, and Nice are can't miss cities in France. Like you, I'm a foodie...it's a huge part of every trip I take. Not only do these three have the most charm, but Avignon and Lyon are probably top 10 European destinations for foodies.

we found the food style in Lyon to be revolting. way too heavy for us.
Paris was a nice mix of all French styles. especially dug Basque style, which is less cream and butter heavy.
Avignon was ok. talking about dumps...anything outside the old city was not nice at all.

in the end, we will never know which is better unless we ask Pappelbon, who will assure us that Philly is better than any city he's never been to.

Weird comparison, but Philly's a nice city too (and in a lot of ways comparable to Toronto). No need to trash on it.

i took to saying i didnt speak english or french when i was there cause of all the beggers. handing you cards about how their aunt died or they were abused or whatever else. and the strippers, my goodness, "only 30 euro" keep walking "20 euro" keep walking "10 euro", no thank you, "come in free". but it could all be bias cause it was a terrible hostel who kept moving me and some jerkoff stole my nutella and crepes i had bought for breakfast. the area around the river is nice, ill give it that.

i really question where you were staying.
do you know which arrondisment you were staying in?

your experience sounds more like Prague than Paris. Paris is incredibly safe and yeah, i don't think there are any strip joints anywhere near the river.

we go to Paris and Philadelphia every year so this thread is pretty ironic lol. Philly is nice - better than Toronto nice, but that's it. And why Philadelphia every year? - to catch an Eagles game at the Linc. Pappelbon's a fool.
