I'm guessing that he's versatile, had a great spring, and if this is a temporary move to get Lind some confidence, then it doesn't burn an option for somebody like Cooper. Gomes can catch, play first and even third which might be a factor when Lawrie's suspension begins. Gomes has played more games at 3B than 1B for Vegas. He's also caught a bit and DH'd.

He's hitting .359 with an OPS over 900 which even for Vegas is not chopped liver.

Hes probably here to replace Lawrie for his suspension. Hit well in spring and AAA but his BB/K ratio is pretty bad. Cooper should have gotten a shot but as long as lind is gone im good

I think the demotion was more to get his confidence back. Hit for a better average and power down there.

Makes sense. Gomes only has 10 games of minor league experience at third, so I expect he'll struggle, but I guess they're worried that forcing EE to suck at third might affect his batting.
