Gomes has exceeded expectations in is short major league career. What to do with him now that Lawrie is back?

Keep him as a bench player?
Start him at 1st and DH (with EE)?
Send him down to Vegas?

Keep him on the roster and try to find as many AB's for him as we can. He's proven he can play so let him.

sure, that would get guerrero on the 40-man roster, but where is he going to get at bats? definitely not from our leading RBI getter EE. so it is gonna be Yan Gomes

there's two cases:

EE DH
1B Gomes

Guerrero DH
EE 1B

Gomes could catch some of the time and give EE, Lawrie and JPA the odd day off.

According to BBB

There might be another move coming after the Lawrie suspension is served.

So I wouldn't rule out a trade, Gomes being sent back down, Ben Francisco being released or something even crazier.

E5 takes reps in LF since spring, KJ apparently can play a little bit of LF too.

Good point. It is a tad early to be searching for AB's for a player who had a good week, and make any roster moves based off of it.

Yes, but only slightly. It will mean he could be added to a package as part of a trade and the other GM wouldn't laugh or scoff at a utility player who has a little pop, can play multiple positions, and is under control for some years.

I want a trade, so perhaps I'm guilty of wishful thinking. I've been known to highjack a few threads with trade scenarios.

(It's actually 10 at-bats, or 12 PA. Not 8.)

His trade value is contingent on his major-AND-minor league performances.

His spot on the 25-man roster, however, is not up for debate after 10 at-bats. Too many of you lot have Will Middlebrooks on your fantasy team and are drawing parallels.

Trade value and a spot on the 25-man roster are different from one another. You are conflating the two.

My small sample size caveat was to the question of his immediate future in the major leagues. Trade value is something else.

His trade value is contingent on his major-AND-minor league performances. So his 10 at-bats do help. But those 10 at-bats are too small a sample size to determine his future with the 25-man big-league club.

He could have been a piece in a trade even before the call-up, so these 10 AB/12 PA do not hurt.

It's pretty straightforward. But you're welcome to nitpick further along the circumference of a well-rounded post.

you see the highlights of Vlad's "spring training"? dude can barely leg it to first.

my expectations for Vlad are low. I'd rather have Gomes DHing or playing 1st (if he can) and take our time on Vlad. give Vlad a month. Gomes's #s will come back to earth (or plummet mightily) and things will play out.

it also doesn't hurt to send Gomes back to AAA for more seasoning and experience. if Lawrie's a franchise player, you then move Gomes to 1st and let him play there the year in preparation for next season.

If Gomes can play first then it's a no brainer.

Seems like something should be in the works though - this lineup is not gonna get it done.

Doubt Vlad will bring much production.

I had a lot of hope for Vlad before I saw the clip of him in extended spring training. His legs are clearly in bad shape and he's going to have a hard time making any contributions that way.

Gomes brings a lot of positional versatility for us as an option off the bench for now. His bat seems productive so I'm fine with him getting time off the bench for us. EE will be the full time 1B and we can have a rotating DH for the rest of the year with JPA taking turns there plus whoever needs a day off and Gomes filling in the cracks.
