Drew Hutchison injury update thread

Post#1 » by Kapono » Sat Jun 16, 2012 1:48 am

Use this thread to post any new news on Hutchison's injury.

All we know so far is that he left in the first inning due to elbow soreness.

Elbow soreness >>> shoulder soreness. That's the most positive statement I can make, I'm afraid.

We had been pretty lucky up to this point, it was bound to start pouring eventually.

i have to say that, over the past few weeks, whenever i heard anyone compare Hutch to Marcum, all I could hear was Schad's f'ing clacking away at the keyboard a few years ago. you know, the one where he talked about Marcum's delivery being unsustainable and an injury waiting to happen.

so i blame Schad for this. no one else. thanks, Schad.

I think than losing three starters in a week is more like a tropical storm.

The Jays have been hurt by injuries for many years now, and we can't even blame Arm Shredder Arnsberg for these latest ones. Very frustrating. We just have to come to grips that young pitchers (unless they wear Tampa Bay Rays uniforms) are highly prone to injury.

Hutchinson put on the DL with an elbow SPRAIN

That's good, but Drabek also started out as a sprain and upon further examination was found to have a slight UCL tear.
@ShiDavidi
No surprise, Drew Hutchison to DL with ligament sprain. Robert Coello back from Vegas.

@ShiDavidi
Hutchison says he's on a no-throw program for two weeks, rehab after that. Tests showed no tear. He may seek second opinion to make sure.

‏@gregorMLB
Hutchison likely will seek second opinion for precautionary purposes but he has been diagnosed with a sprained UCL -- no tear. #BlueJays

Wow, this really was/is the best case scenario. Fingers cross that this turns out to be the case.

ffs a sprain is a tear. but its good its not more serious. but jeez two ucl's in a week thats unlucky. its not like an ankle where you just turn it, usually ucl's are a more stress/chronic related injury.

Let's hope the no throw, slow rehab goes better than with Santos. Won't surprise me at all if Hutch is done for the season.

Mike Wilner ‏@Wilnerness590

Farrell: 2nd opinion confirmed original diagnosis of sprain for Hutchison. He's in Florida for further testing. TJ still possible ‪#Bluejays‬

FLA, that's where Dr. Andrews is performing the surgery on Drabek. They 're really checking out this elbow. Hopefully, no TJ required.

Edit: I guess he was going to discuss options with his family according to Barry Davis

Barry Davis ‏@SNBarryDavis
Farrell says TJ not out of question but Hutch needs to discuss with family and deicde where to go from here

What are you asking your family about?

Do the procedure and get on with it.

The latest from Shi Davidi is 4-6 weeks of no-throw followed by the usual return process beginning with long toss. But the prognosis of 100% recovery without surgery seems to be unanimous. Hutchinson saw, or had his filed checked, by three or four doctors including Jays' staff here and in FLA as well as Dr. Andrews.

So it sounds like he could be available by Sept. 1 if the season still has any meaning.

I really hope that this is the case. I would hate for him to get reinjured down the road and still have to get the surgery done later on.
