Right behind Bautista with HR's for the Jays! Having his best season yet as a Jay HR wise too.

The top 4 in the order have really looked a heck of a whole lot better since Lind has left it (and Lawrie + Rasmus) moved up...

Imagine we had done that the whole season.

EE hitting Bernie Brewer's slide will be a classic for years.

So, at what point do you believe that it has really clicked for a batter and at what point do you think it's just a good season or stretch?

I hadn't thought of putting Lawrie to lead-off, I had always thought Rasmus should have been... With maybe Rajai #2.

But this seems to be working marvelously.

Now Imagine that Aaron Hill was still around instead of Kelly Johnson and slotted it at #5 or #6 behind either EE or David Cooper...

Hopefully Hechavarria relieves our need for one of our current middle infielders in the second half, before the trade deadline! I would love to see an all Cuban middle infield in our line-up this August/September.

Edwin and Jose have definitely been bright spots in an otherwise disappointing year.

How is this guy not an all-star?! He is more than deserving.

An update is due for his two home runs the other day (numbers 24 and 25).

I think an update is needed for Edwin Encarnacion. He's been the most consistent jay all season long. I dont think he gets the respect he deserves. Hes on pace for 40+ hr's and 100+ rbi. His contract is looking like a bargain!

He's been great all year. I find with him and Bautista that they don't simply hit bad pitching, they hit the good pitchers, as well. I've especially been impressed with Edwin's ability to remain patient, with no one around him, since Bautista's been out.

The Jays said before last year that they feel he could be the next guy to have a Bautista-like break out. Good call.

Edwin was probably half of the reason why AA didn't keep Mike Napoli (the other reason being JPA). I'm glad how EE has turned out, major stride in seeing the ball better and being patient. power was always there

Glad to see AA's patience with EE panning out. Everyone knew he had this type of potential but he was running out of time to achieve it. Hopefully this is at least somewhat sustainable over the next few years, even if his OPS drops a bit. The Jays haven't had a good long-term 1B option since Delgado left (Overbay's 2006 aside). Maybe EE will finally break the jinx.

Seriously?

You mean like exposing him to waivers less than two years ago and losing him to Oakland for nothing?

Encarnacion has been with this team because he provided a cheap option, not because Anthopoulos expected anything remotely resembling what he is now

Yes, he exposed EE to waivers....only to bring him back and promise him a full-time role on the team in 2011 when no other team in baseball would have given him such a promise. He gave up Mike Napoli for a sack of garbage so he could play EE everyday, when Napoli's career numbers killed EE's in every conceivable way. He signed EE to a team friendly two year deal, watched EE only have two good months in 2011, picked up his option, then AGAIN gave EE a full-time spot on the team as a DH in 2012 when EE hadn't had an OPS above .800 since 2008, and then signed him to a long-term contract the moment he started to bust out.

A quote from pre-2011:

"The Blue Jays are hopeful that Lind can handle first defensively and they're optimistic about Encarnacion's power potential. Anthopoulos says he thinks Encarnacion has "one more gear in there" and while he hesitated before comparing him to Bautista, the GM says he can see Encarnacion hitting 30 homers or more in 2011."

I know you don't like AA after he traded for Happ and Lincoln, but people were questioning his obsession with Encarnacion for two years (me included). Call a spade a spade here. He liked EE and gave him every opportunity to play despite what his numbers pre-2012 said.

Please. If he saw 30 homers as closer to reality than fantasy, he would never have exposed him to waivers. Why would he risk losing him for nothing if he believed in this outcome?

Everyone knew Encarnacion had immense power potential, but no one, including Anthopoulos, could have seen this as a realistic outcome. If he did, and he still exposed him, then no one should be applauding that.

Just as trading value in Napoli, as you stated, for garbage, for the sole intent of limiting his DH and 1b options to Encarnacion and Lind only, is not to be applauded either. If that was his motivation, and I'm sure it wasn't, but if it were, then he deserves any and all ridicule that could be thrown his way.

He re-signed Encarnacion because he provided value at that price, and based on Rogers commitment to spend as little as possible on the major league roster, Anthopoulos needs to find value.

I don't dislike Anthopoulos at all. Yes, i disliked those two trades and still do, but he's done far more good than negative in his time here. However stating that Anthopoulos re-signed Encarnacion for any reason other than providing solid value at a cheap price tag is really ingenious

Edit... the irony is spectacular that you've participated in the "Shillner" thread and then here have honestly tried to justify that cluster **** of a trade, Napoli for Francisco, as part of the Encarnacion success story... Amazing... trust me, Anthopoulos could have seen Encarnacion as the second coming of Ruth and still made the logical decision to platoon Napoli and Lind and this team would have been so much better off for it.
