If you're going to start a thread, maybe you could give some sort of explanation of how a pitching coach can be responsible for a pitcher's injury. Not saying it's impossible, but I find it pretty hard to believe.

This year has been an unmitigated disaster for our starters. 4 of 5 are down.

dont no how much of it caused the injuries but alverez, drabek, and hutch aren't ready for the majors...u can tell they all have the stuff but its not refined and mastered, they're close...if the jays went out and got actual pitchers they wouldn't need 3 guys in their early 20s in the rotation hindering their development

Just as dumb as when Arnsberg was blamed for McGowan, Marcum, and Litsch's injuries. Young pitchers get hurt, pitching is unnatural on the arm...that's the way it goes.

A thread like this makes me smile. it harkens back to the days on the Raptors board where "Fire Smitch" "Fire Triano" and "Fire BC" appeared once a week after bad things happened.

If your going to fire anyone it may as well be the strength and conditioning coach as it seems he doesn't have his pitchers ready for the rigors of a full season.

I can't understand how George Poulis still has a job when you consider the amount of injuries this team has sustained over the last few years.
If HA has to go under the knife, Walton has to be let go (even if he isn't the culprit) for appearances. Seriously, other than Butter, there isn't much to like about the support staff of this team. Just a terrible job by AA all around in personnel selection.
Hopefully Francona will be still be available at the end of the season because if the season is heading, where I think it is heading, this team will need a new bunch of things.

The other 4 starters matter too. And the team is way behind the 8-ball now. Pitching is now in tatters.

4th place with 84 wins is where I pegged us anyway. We just hit a wave of bad luck very quickly. Drabek isn't much of a loss because he has been bad for awhile, Alvarez has been awful too. Morrow's injury thankfully isn't related to his arm, and Hutchison apparently won't need surgery. It's not terribly bleak moving forward to next season when we'll beef up to compete.

It's a legitimate smile, these kind of threads mean we care! After that apathetic Raptors season I'm looking forward to cheering for a team with actual postseason aspirations. For the Jays, I just don't think it's this year. (But I do have $40 riding on them over 81.5 wins and am praying AA isn't a "seller" at the deadline)

I have hope for next season too. You are right - the future is not bleak. And I admit to arguing a stark point of view here --- partially to raise the pressure on our coaching staff.
But,,, If I'm your portfolio manager at an investment firm, and I lost 80% of your value over a few months, it would be proper for me to be released. And I'm not sure why anyone would think I should stay. Forgiveness? Charity?
Regardless, this year's outcomes have been unacceptable.

I said a few days ago that the team should have an outsider conduct a "best practices" review of conditonning, warmup, training practices. This is more than bad luck, and teams that have statistically anomalous runs of injuries do seek re-assurance that they aren't doing something that is causing it. I was laughed at for the suggestion, but three elbow injuries in two weeks among five guys, plus Morrow's oblique?

If anyone should be blamed for this bad luck it would be AA, for filling out the rotation with young unprepared pitchers, replacing them with young unprepared pitchers and then replacing them with rec league scrubs.
