Well, the pitching order says a bit about what they think/hope will happen IMO.
Last 5 starts before ASB = Villanueva/Alvarez/Laffey/Romero/Cecil
First 5 starts after ASB = Romero/Laffey/Villanueva/Alvarez/Cecil
IMO that means Alvarez and Cecil are the de facto 4 and 5's for the year. Laffey and Villanueva are Morrow and trade placeholders. IMO if they had any confidence in Alvarez right now he'd be at least 3rd starting out again. Especially 'cause if they want to do skips, the first two days off could/would skip the 5th and 4th starters respectively.
Of course if Laffey and/or Villanueva are replaced, but have outperformed the 4 and 5 I guess they could slide down, but IMO when they set this rotation, that's the initial plan for the second half, which bodes fairly well for those hoping for an upgrade since I don't think they'd be holding 2 and 3 open unless they plan to add a SP. I guess they could've already decided Villanueva is the #3, but that doesn't seem likely to me.
Anyway, end of my pointless conjecture based on almost nothing.
