#BlueJays interested in both Josh Johnson and Hanley Ramirez. Source says they have stronger desire to land JJ because of pitching need.

We're interested in ALL the big names, but never has a deal been made! :-?

If Josh Johnson is gettable, then I'm all over it. Although fangraphs latest thing is a bit about JJ being 2011 Morrow basically, I'll still take him in a heartbeat.

I don't get dealing JJ for MIA though. Hanley I get 'cause that's just been a messed up situation for a while. Anibal is going to be gone, but Johnson is signed for next year too and I can't see them sending the signal to the fanbase that this is a longer-term rebuild and not just dumping what needs to go to tool up this summer. I have a hard time understanding why a team wanting to contend soon (just realistically not this year anymore) would move JJ for prospects. I guess if they're ready to throw his 13m at Hamels/Greinke with another 10, then it makes some sense to get prospects now, but that's a pretty hefty if, since you'd still have to actually win the bidding and convince them to come too.

Anyway, I'm a Johnson fan and as long as the docs don't cringe, I'd be ecstatic about picking him up.

Considering what they just gave Buehrle and Reyes this off-season, It's weird they might be going the full rebuild around Stanton/Reyes route just this quickly. Tough Market I guess.

Ramirez might just be the pill you have to take to get JJ. Don't usually see alot of trades with big salary ballast in an uncapped league like MLB. Interesting thou if the Marlins do insist on taking on Ramirez's full salary in order to get your hands on JJ.

If Buehrle is available too, I could see the Tigers maybe taking him on.

Sign me up. A Lawrie-Hanley-Yunel-Edwin infield sounds good to me.

This screams of when the fish traded Beckett to Boston and insisted they take Mike Lowell and look how that turned out when he had several solid seasons for the sox

You're complaining about the Jays not making deals?

I think he's referring to big names not being traded for, we usually go for the low cost deals with upside instead of the big names or even more than that, higher salaries.

Not complaining, it's just a fact at this point! We're always rumored to be involved with every big name (higher priced players) available rather it be trade or free agency. AA seems to call everyone, but never seems to land one of the players many thought we were after.

since twitter came around every toronto team is linked to every player. or at least a far higher percentage than were probably actually going after.

Or maybe we're not seriously after them to begin with. I've found that rumour =/= trade for the Jays... AA is stealthy...

Marlins will eat some salary for Ramirez and want young quality players

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/multiple-teams-interested-in-hanley-ramirez.html

6:47pm: With Ramirez owed roughly $38.5MM for the remainder of his contract, rival executives say the Marlins would have to pick up a substantial portion of that money in any deal, reports Buster Olney of ESPN.com. As well, some teams think Ramirez is not a third baseman, though they might try him again at shortstop (Twitter links

An American League official told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that the Marlins' asking price for Hanley Ramirez is "not ridiculous." Miami wants quality young pieces in return for Ramirez, who earns $15MM in 2012, $15.5MM in 2013 and $16MM in 2014. The infielder does not have no-trade protection.

We shouldn't be concerning ourselves with salary in a league with no salary cap.

So who are the prospects we would be giving up? I don't think we give up Gose the kid is a legit star in the making IMHO. I think I saw a post were somebody suggested that we move Hench, JPA one of Lind or Snider, Drabek and a couple B level guys. Not a prospect guru like some of you guys but is that enough for both or one of them or is it too much on Toronto's end?

If a guy like Hanley is available then you don't worry about what position he will play. That can be sorted out after he's on the team.

Give them one of Gose/Marsinick, Cooper and a pitcher outside of our big 3 pitching prospects

This discussion is very cute. Rogers going after a guy who makes 5m+? That's laughable. We'll forever waste our resources on Happs and Lyons.

Can someone merge this thread with the other 'Trade for Hanley' thread?

Wonder if Eovaldi now going to the Marlins if it means Johnson is available again. If so and given their current trading trends of getting players ready to play then Gomes/Thames/Cooper or a package involving Gose? (Although Grossman makes it a little less of a need for a CF)
