How many months did he waste delaying the inevitable?
Stupid move not doing this right away.

The last 2 months has been AA's worst times as GM. Hopefully he can rebound and have a good offseason/end of year.

Man, I've hated on AA as much as anyone, but this comment is ridiculous.
What does a freakish amount of injuries have to do with AA's capabilities as GM? Yes, he's made some questionable moves, but the two are COMPLETELY separate.

being a sports fan in toronto is great. all the rogers/bell teams are elite, the jays are healthy and finally competing for the playoffs, the bills are stupendous, the argos matter, and canada always has their best athletes come through in the clutch at the olympics.

It's people like you who make me wish all 3 teams relocated to Vancouver or some other random place where you can't see games.

I'm not sure McGowan had TJS. His issues were always shoulder related, no?

I bet he's going to blame it on Rogers not signing Fielder.

Had a feeling it wouldn't heal properly. Hutchison was trying to be optimistic not taking surgery.

I wish my city had MLB, NHL, MLS, NBA, NFL,CFL games, Toronto fans are luckier than any other city.

I agree completely. People forget how lucky they are to even have a team. Watching a .500+ team on the cusp on playoff contention (injury free/next season) isn't that shabby.

I don't think it makes much of a difference. He was likely to miss all or most of 2013 whether he got the surgery done now or two months ago. He might be better off getting it now since he can miss all of 2013 (no premature attempts at an early comeback) and be ready for ST in 2014 when he is 23. Sucks that he got hurt but he is a young pitcher. These type of things happen to pitchers that don't end up in Tampa Bay (where young pitchers seemingly throw 200+ IP every year without so much as a missed start).

Jays seem to have the MLB equivalent to the Portland Trailblazers training staff. It does seem like bad luck but after how many injuries they've had with pitchers this season you really wonder if this has something to do with the training staff.
They should pretty much change the name to "Tommy Jay" surgery.

Don't forget BJ Ryan in 2007. JP's crown jewel. Because building a winning team means spending $47M of a limited budget on a 30 year old relief pitcher.

Although the Jays have been hit particularly hard, these injuries seem to be all over the place.
I wonder if teams have been going about this entirely the wrong way. The recent approach of the Jays and some other teams seems to be to bring pitchers along very carefully, strictly limiting their innings per start (even having two "starters" in one game), shutting them down before the end of the year, and so on. Is it possible that the young pitchers are being brought along too carefully and conservatively to the point where it is somehow leading to problems when they step up to the major league level?
I don't claim at all to know much about medicine or how the Jays are bringing their young pitchers along. I only know that not that long ago it seemed to me that young starters didn't have so many strict inning and pitch count limits. And when the young guys pitched more, they seemed to get hurt less than they do now.
There might be no correlation at all, but what is certain is that being very careful in their development in terms of workload sure doesn't seem to be preventing injuries.

This is a great point of why it was a good idea to sit out on marquee FA last offseason. Spending huge chunks of money on players is bad, especially when your budget isn't going to be anything comparable to the Yankee's or Sox's.
