5. Toronto Blue Jays
AL EAST FPR RANK: 2

The Overview

General Manager Alex Anthopoulos told reporters recently that he is no longer in the market for prospects and that he is in search of major league pitchers who can help the Jays win now. The challenge for the Jays is that the Royals, Indians and other teams are looking for exactly the same thing. A return to form for Ricky Romero is essential to their long-term success. -- Buster Olney

The Dilemma

The Jays saw a number of pitchers get hurt in 2012, including Brandon Morrow and Kyle Drabek, and they need a healthy staff in order to contend in 2013. They could also fortify their staff by trading catcher J.P. Arencibia and/or shortstop Yunel Escobar, which would also open the door for Travis d'Arnaud and Adeiny Hechavarria. -- Jim Bowden

The System

The trio of Aaron Sanchez, Justin Nicolino and Noah Syndergaard continues to impress at low-Class A Lansing, and a solid draft class that could see one of its members, right-hander Marcus Stroman, reach the majors this year have all buoyed a system that lost d'Arnaud and Drew Hutchison to season-ending injuries. -- Keith Law
