he is perfect extra guy for AAA team
He was 151 of 159 for SPs with over 80 IP in FIP and the last of the 9 guys with a negative fWAR.
Only because Romero and Alvarez were 147 and 149 on that scale does Laffey look like he belongs within a million miles of a major league pitching squad.
And even if he's not terrible guy to have in AAA for emergencies, you certainly don't hold him over during an offseason 'cause there are going to be a dozen guys with some starting experience looking for those AAAA camp tryout gigs and they'll all be Laffey equivalents at worst.
And keep in mind the switch to BUF means we'll be happy to play Jenkins and McGuire and all potential prospects at AAA, so there's no more need to find 5 placeholders for LV. Of course we still want a Laffeyesque guy for like the 9th/10th rotation spots, but it certainly doesn't have to be Laffey and even if it should be, you can keep the spot on your 40 open, save yourself a Rule 5 loss and get him back later when someone gets hurt.
