Finally dish out for Greinke?

Hes still relatively young, no injury issues, and is LEGIT ace...even if he doesn't want to be here, we still gotta make a huge offer, i no the jays hate long 20+ mill per contracts but if you ever decide to dish out for a player, its NOW and its for Zack Greinke

This is the wrong offseason to dish out a 20+ million per contract to a pitcher. I could have agreed with throwing that money at Cole Hamels or maybe even Matt Cain, but Zach Greinke is not n par.

Greinke is a ace, no doubt, but that isent enough. He is not in the league of the truely top teir aces like Sabathia, Verlander, Hamels etc... Geinke is a 1B plan type of guy........... not quite top tier, yet still not low as 2 tier. He is in the middle.

I could justify giving him a 15-16 million per...... but Brewers already offered him 20+ million and he turned it down. Looks like he is gonna cost a lot, as the best pitcher on the market.

doesn't mean im not a fan of the guy though.

Didnt he say he did not want to come to Toronto? Didnt he block a trade to Toronto back in his Brewer days?

I see the chance of this happening remote to none.
I'd be shocked if it occured.

As just a baseball fan, I'd say sure. It's not my money, so dish out however much is needed to sign him.

But if I were GM, I'd pass based on the money he'd likely receive. He may be an ace, but he's not a shutdown ace of sorts... and he still seems like a bit too much of a headcase to be "reliable". He's had... what, 1 complete game shutout in the past three seasons? Meh. That's not a 20+ mill guy to me, and unfortunately, that's what some teams are likely going to offer him.

im sure greinke doesnt prefer toronto, why would he...but even if management attempts a serious/legit offer it would be a move in the right direction...if they try and fail i still be happy

I like Greinke more than his doubters, but with Cain and Hamels all locked up, he's simply going to get paid more than I'd be willing to spend.

I have no idea if any of the rumours about his AL east aversions or just TOR are true, but whether it's an LA or BOS or whoever else, someone is going to park a truck in front of him filled with money and it'll be the kind of thing people will lament next year and maybe the one after and will then casually forget about once they make fun of the club that will owe him 100m+ between 2016 and 2095.

Sounds like an NHL contract

Pretty much. I don't like the idea either of being the highest bidder for Greinke. Having said that, if the Jays hope to compete in the upcoming seasons they'll have to significantly improve their rotation and this accomplishes that without sacrificing their affordable, young talent coming through the system

I'd rather sign Greinke outright than give up 3 stud prospects for Felix Hernandez and then have to pay Felix a ton of cash in a couple of seasons anyways

Greinke is going to get a huge payday with the Angels / Rangers/ Dodgers bidding against each other. I can't see him getting any less than Hamels' 6 yr / 144 M.

The Jays could potentially sign 3 guys like Sanchez, Jackson, and Marcum for the same amount.

Really big fan of Greinke give me the keys I'll start backing up the money truck. 144 mil over 6 years would be fair for him, would need to average 4.5 WAR over the 6 years given what he has done so far that doesn't seem to far fetched.

I don't think anything less than a 150 million commitment gets it done, the years are irrelevant but Grienke is the kind of pitcher that is worth risking an absurd amount like that.

I'd love Greinke- who wouldn't, he's a bonafide ace in the prime of his career who has everything.

Now will Rogers fork over the 7/160 contract it's going to take to get him? Because that's not out of the price range for him. It's going to start at Cole Hamels 6/144 and go up from there. Someone will offer that 7th year you can bet on it.
