I'm guessing certain people in the Angels organization particularly like Brandon Sisk, because from an outside perspective, a 27 year old career-minor league relief pitcher doesn't look like much of anything.

I don't like Ervin Santana much anymore, but if a not-even-prospect kind of minor-leaguer is all it took, I'd have appreciated the Jays taking a shot. Oh, well... maybe the Jays don't have any of those kinds of players that the Angels wanted.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

If Marmol can ever learn not to walk guys, he'd be pretty darn good!

I know it's only 1 year of Haren and they're probably absorbing all his contract but that's pretty cheap for a #2 starter.

That's good value for Ortiz and the Sox can move on to other priorities now. I don't think we would have been a player, but a lot of us were interested in him.

Marmol is due to make $9.8M!? Why the hell would LAA wanna pay him that over Haren's 15.5M?

I don't understand why the Angels just didn't decline the option on Haren if they didn't want him back. Marmol is a $10M reliever. Great K rates but I can't imagine a 7.0 BB/9 is going to work in the AL.

I wonder if they would have done Lind/Oliver for Haren? Probably not, but salary wise it's about the same as Marmol's salary and Oliver (if he doesn't retire) is better than Marmol as a short-term option.

If that's all it cost to acquire Haren, it looks like his trade value fell apart after his poor season in 2012 (and it should be said, he was really bad). I don't really blame the Jays for not believing that he would be any kind of an answer to their rotational woes even with a one-year commitment. But I'm not sure there are that many better options out there.

Has the trade really happened yet?

7:56pm: Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com (via Twitter) hears that the deal has not been completed and the Angels are still active in discussions with more than one team.

Interesting tidbit about the Rays.

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-h ... n--37-more

27. Shaun Marcum, SP. He consistently outpitches his stuff, though he had a bit of injury trouble last year. Expert: $10.25 million, 1 year. Me: $20 million, 2 years.

The market is out of control if that is true. That seems like a ton of money for somebody a lot of people think could be a good #3 or #4 starter.

That seems like a good deal when you pit him against Edwin Jackson, Gavin Floyd or John Danks

That really surprised me when I thought of Matt Moore and Hellickson, but Moore was drafted 5 years ago and Hellickson was drafted 7 years ago.

For a team that's built by the draft, they've been slow to graduate players.

They have zero reason to go fast now that they've got a full competitive club. They know they won't get these guys on a FA contract. They also know they won't be trading them for more expensive pieces so they don't worry about damaging their overall prospect value too much by having them graduate at 23-25. Maybe they'll get a deal done early that gives them 7-9 years instead of 6 like with Longoria or Moore, but there's no upside for them to get guys into the show as they know they will never own the players into their 30's anyway.

New uniforms as well. Pretty much stole it straight from a Japanese team.
