Shi Davidi ‏@ShiDavidi

Three sources indicate #Jays will sign Maicer Izturis for numbers similar but not exactly the $10m over 3 yrs + club option being reported

Good move, I wouldn't mind him starting but I would rather him as a backup.

Definitely a better option than Aviles.

I like the improvement in contact rate over KJ. Good to have some security over the next few years since we don't have alot of MI prospects on the horizon.

I wonder where KJ will end up.

It's a nice, cheap signing. Hopefully this leaves us money to address the pitching staff!

He's like a cheap Jeff Keppinger

Except he's got much better speed and defense than Keppinger and has far better career stats across the board. The only thing Keppinger has on him is 2012 production. Izturis is a great pick up at 3M AAV.

Don't see how someone could dislike this deal, he's cheap and versatile so there'll never be any position controversy, even if he's a part time player he's a solid option and only getting paid 3 mil a year.

Now that we have a middle infielder out of the way AA can set his sights on starting pitching and perhaps another 1B/LF bat.

Whether he's used as the starting second baseman or the utility IF spot off the bench, I think this is a decent move. Not too expensive, as he shouldn't be, but he also has some potential to hit for a decent average and run for some speed.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

Way better than the Jonny Mac's and Omar Vizquel's we've been trotting out as utility IF's over recent years.

There are some reports there is a $1 million buyout if we do not pick up the option.

I like the signing. If we're trotting out Maicer Izturis and Adeiny Hechavarria everyday though I am not sold, but hopefully that's not in play. If we're to assume that Maicer will be used as a utility infielder, like most of us assume, then it's an upgrade at a good price.

i think most of us assume izturis will be our full-time second baseman until hech forces his way onto the team or a better 2B is acquired (via trade or in 2013/14 free agency). he's a utility infielder in the sense that he can play multiple positions, but not in the sense of being a back-up (ie. vizquel, mccoy) who gives regulars a day off here and there, which we all wish he was but, i don't think that's the plan. maicer da slicer will be taking the field on opening night and on a vast majority of games thereafter.

I don't know why people are thrilled. This still doesn't solve our hole at 2B. Izturis is a fine utility infielder, but I'd be disappointed if we're going into next season with Maicer Itzuris as the starting 2nd baseman.
