Jays should protest if Selig calls it off........ after allowing Dodgers to take 200 million off the hands of Boston, he has no business even questioning this trade. He should explain why Boston could deal bigger contracts for lesser prospects. Its not like the JAYS fleesed the Marlins. Top prospects were handed exchanged.

the man is patting his legacy and Jays could be the victim.

He has to review all deals with over 1 million dollars cash being traded. Relax.

He allowed Boston to get away with an even bigger salary dump earlier in the year. He also can't expect to have all those players go back to the Marlins and play it off like nothing happened. And at the end of the day, there was nothing illegal about this move.

This isn't the NBA, so I doubt anything unusual will happen. The league actually respects the Jays organization.

And to be fair, the Chris Paul situation was apples and oranges because the NBA owned the team at the time.

I very much doubt it will be revoked, unless Beeston really ticked off the wrong people during his time with MLB.

i really don't think I'd worry about this.. is there even a precedent for a blocked deal in the MLB? the backlash that would result would be too much

I think the last one was in 1976. So it's not very likely. Especially after what the Dodgers/Red Sox just did. Maybe they want to nip it in the bud and stop these kinds of deals, but I think that would hurt both the Miami and Toronto franchises in the long-run so it doesn't make much sense. You can't force an owner to spend money. If he wants to get rid of those players, he'll get rid of those players, it's that simple. It would maybe be three smaller deals instead of one big deal, but make no mistake, Loria will still be dumping salary if this deal is nixed.

Yep, and only then because Charlie O was literally trying to sell his players...which was a step further than simply using the franchise (when it was in Kansas City, at least) as the unofficial farm system of the Yankees, as he'd been allowed to do.

Let me give you my reasons Selig can't/won't do anything.

1. It's not a bad baseball trade. If this trade involved any two teams not named Miami, it can be justified and while it makes some brief headlines, the league and media don't have much more to say.
2. Loria broke no rules. The CBA should have a payroll floor and Loria is gaming the system and screwing the fans, but legally, he's on solid ground.
3. MLB is afraid of setting a bad precedent. If they intervene here, who's to say adverse public reaction doesn't force the commissioner's hand in other salary dumps.
4. If Loria can't do this trade there is nothing stopping him from doing other, small salary dumps to achieve his objective, so nothing is accomplished by nixing this trade.
5. If the trade is axed, it not only robs the Jays of a chance to improve, it harms Rogers' investment. The anger would be profound and palpable, and just as the Yu Darvish affair hurt the team's image, axing the deal would sour a lot of fans on baseball the way the 1994 lockout almost killed MLB in Canada.
6. MLB didn;t intervene when Loria did his salary dump with the Dodgers, so the Jays would have a legal argument that they are being discriminated against. If Rogers felt inclined, it might have good grounds for a lawsuit against Selig and MLB
7. Selig and Beeston are close, and MLB is one of those ultimate old boys club, and they don't cross each other.
8. There are other ways to deal with Loria.

This was a baseball trade just as much as it was a monetary trade, which is why Selig will ultimately do nothing.

Unless one of the major players involved is injured, I expect the deal to go through.

why is it a big deal for Bluejays and not Red sox? I dont get that other then he is bias and is trying to screw the Jays

it seems as though he wants to find a way to rigg it so his cash cows can thrive and keep the Jays at a certain level

There is a difference between the two situations. Not sure why people keep talking like it is the exact same scenario. Everybody knows Boston will spend again and have a ton of fans. Selig knows that this may be the final straw in Miami.

I don't like this trade that much so don't care what happens either way.
