Commissioner Bud Selig's office approved last week's mega-deal on Monday, which sees shortstop Jose Reyes, pitchers Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle, utility player Emilio Bonifacio and catcher John Buck off to Toronto in for shortstop Yunel Escobar, pitchers Henderson Alvarez, Justin Nicolino and Anthony DeSclafani, infielder Adeiny Hechavarria, catcher Jeff Mathis, and outfielder Jake Marisnick.
"After a thorough examination of this information, it is my conclusion that this transaction, involving established Major Leaguers and highly regarded young players and prospects, represents the exercise of plausible baseball judgment on the part of both Clubs, does not violate any express rule of Major League Baseball and does not otherwise warrant the exercise of any of my powers to prevent its completion.

Does he make a hiring decision in the next 48 hours hours now or look for more deals and finalizing the roster before bringing a guy in?

Even though I knew there was a very slim chance it wouldn't get approved, it's nice to have it made official...now only 4 months or so to wait until opening day

The FAN is reporting they'll be a presser Tues morning at 9:30. No players are expected to be there.

Yeah, I don't expect the players to be there. There MAY be one or two that are in Toronto, but having a presser for a big deal like that might be awkward for one player to do. I think I remember reading an article a few days ago that the physicals were mostly held in Miami.

Well Loria has officially burned his MLB bridges. I'm sure Selig wanted a reason to send this one back, but couldn't. Not to screw with the Jays or that it was unfair, but this deal all on its own jeopardizes MLB's ability to get tax dollars into new stadiums and that's 100's of million of dollars being pissed away on one very bad PR story. IMO Loria won't own the Marlins 5 years from now (I'd say sooner, but these things take time). They're going to tell him to take his money that he's basically stolen and get out 'cause the next time they want to go to a city council and/or a state legislature for help with a new ballpark, they can't have this guy within 100 yards of one of their ballclubs. Now damage is already done and they'll get laughed out of the room for the next little while, but I'm positive the balls are already well in motion on getting Loria out of the business, it just may take a while to find a sucker willing to meet his price.
Anyway, should make the next year a pretty fun time to be a Jays fan and we'll just have to hold our breath on the longer-term impacts those deals will have.

Beautiful indeed.
I don't know if we can expect 50,000+ at every single game like back in the 90s... but I sure as hell am excited.
Rogers did their part and now we have to do ours.

i think we'll still see a couple sub-20k weekday games here and there but i'd expect a massive boost in attendance numbers overall. jose reyes alone could be worth the price of admission on most nights, the way this guy plays. throw in melky, jose, eddie, lawrie, a revamped rotation and i'm sure the dome will house 30-35k on average but hopefully more.

Talking with my jays ticket representative, he was saying the two days following the trade where the single busiest days they've ever had in the last decade anyways. Tons of season seats and ticket packs gettin snatched up. With how $hitty the rest of Toronto sports are, Argo's withstanding... The jays have capitilized at the right moment. This is gonna be a jays city, and it's going to be awesome!

I would be quite shocked to see any sub-20k games if we do well...
