You're easy to please. Mine would be Dave Duncan as the pitching coach.

Did I miss something?
The hitting, pitching and bullpen coaches will be the same as last year, no?

i remember hearing some time last week that the Orioles weren't going to let him go.. in any case, i wonder if this is an AA hire, or how much input did Gibbons have on this?

Most of the coaches will be back for next year I would guess. Maybe Chad Molatta will be a hitting coach.

Anyone know if Gibby and Hale have crossed paths at any point? It seems like this may be AA's pick.

http://www.masnsports.com/school_of_roc ... coach.htmlThe Orioles apparently will need to find a new third base coach for 2013.
The Toronto Blue Jays will hire DeMarlo Hale as their bench coach, according to two industry sources. One source said Hale could receive a three-year contract.
The Orioles will retain five of their six coaches, having reached agreements with pitching coach Rick Adair and hitting coach Jim Presley over the past week. Hale was the last remaining unsigned coach, and the Orioles made him an offer to return next season.
Hale would replace Don Wakamatsu, the Blue Jays' bench coach last season. Toronto recently hired John Gibbons as manager, his second stint with the club.

Should have gotten Acta. Hale isn't a big enough name for my liking. Is he even a proven winner?

you're probably right. i thought no coach was currently under contract, including walton, murphy, and walker, but they're all still listed as coaches for their respective posts on the jays site so i'll update the OP until something changes.
Nothing has been confirmed at this point. I've been thinking that Brad Arnsberg might return as the pitching coach considering his history with Gibbons, though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeMarlo_HaleNot sure if it means anything, but his overall managerial record (without MLB experience) is 634-614, he's won some managerial awards and championships here and there, and worked under Terry Francona.
I'm not an expert on baseball coaching staff, but it looks like he's trying really hard to earn a managerial shot somewhere.

Maybe I should have gone with the green font.
I have no problem with Hale. It's not like we really have a clue what any of these coaches are doing anyway.

I evaluate coaches based on how good their name sounds. He passes the test so I'm happy.

Good move. Another step in the right direction.

I'll assume this is a good hire. Hale's got a pretty good reputation and pretty good teams seemingly like hiring the guy... Texas-Boston-Baltimore. I read somewhere that he was significant to Baltimore's infield defense last year (which, if I remember correctly, was very good), so aside from his, uh, bench duties, he'll possibly also play a Butterfield type of role with the infielders. I find it slightly amusing that guys like Wakamatsu and Hale -- guys who've previously interviewed for the managers job but kept getting beat out by others -- have no issue with coming here as the bench coaches.
As for the other coaches, I remember AA and Gibbons saying that they'll have to figure it out together, which I assume means that Murphy, Walton, etc. aren't really guaranteed jobs or anything -- plus, I believe both are without contracts at the moment.

It sounds a bit unorthodox, but from their perspective, it does make some sense. Coaches like Wakamatsu and Hale would be bench coaches for other teams anyway, if not for the Blue Jays. And since they know we've had them under the radar for a manager position, if the Gibbons hiring were to go sour, they would probably be next in line - since they are already in the organization.
