We keep posting the same news at literally the same time.
I deleted my thread, so let's use this one.
I don't know what to make of the Red Sox this off-season. I'm not overly impressed with some of their signings and I think they're relying on Farrell to "fix their pitching" just a little too much.

It will be interesting to see who their scapegoat will be this season now that Valentine is gone

Well 26/2 for Dempster is too much, but not insanely too much given the market. I quite like it as it takes a spot I was worried would go to someone better. Lester/Buchholz/Dempster/Doubront/Lackey is far from being a scary rotation IMO. Don't get me wrong, I think if they get their insane heads sorted out they should be competitive next year, but I was worried they'd get a legit 1/2 type instead so the more they're scared off by long-term deals, the happier I am.
And none of that is to say Dempster is bad, he's not. The NL to AL stuff and his performance in TEX don't worry me too much, but at this point he'll be a guy who keeps them in games, not a guy who goes out and dominates, so it's the mid to lower end of what I was expecting them to do, which is great.

Big mistake by Dempster. Should of signed with a NL team. We saw what happened last year with Texas, AL east will beat him up.

Well he's been consistently worth more than 3 fwar in his last 6 years and he's still got a two good years left in him so I'd say its a great signing with low risk, a solid 3/4 type pitcher

The wiretap said he turned down a similar offer from the Red Sox a few days ago
I was surprised he rejected it. That's significant money for 2 years of work

^They added a million and half to the deal. I guess that meant a lot to him.

Really cannot tell you how happy I am that the Red Sox, after clearing boatloads of salary, have decided to spend it on the likes of Victorino and Dempster.

I read that he was waiting to see if a team would add a third year to a deal. I guess no takers so the Red Sox up'd their offer a few bucks (MLB salary-wise)

Lol, same. They have spent/lost 116.2 million dollars. I included the Napoli deal and the 11.7 mill they are sending to the dodgers.

Boston is an incredibly hard park to pitch in. Good luck Demp.
Happy it wasn't us.

Last time I checked (around the trading deadline last season), Demp's BABIP was insanely low in 2012 before he went to Texas, even compared to his previous seasons. Bad, bad signing.
Man, the Rays trading players for prospects, the Yanks hoarding their cash, the Red Sox screwing up, the O's not doing anything. Maybe. Maybe.

The prospects Tampa traded for are MLB-ready, including the best prospect in baseball to replace Upton. They also added Yunel to play SS. I'm most concerned about them, and probably the Yankees. Red Sox are throwing some cash around, too, and a full season of Ellsbury will help, but they're still kind of a mess.

I agree that Tampa is underrated like crazy at the moment. Yunel will have a 3+ fWAR season IMO.

Again, just think how deep their lineup would be if they had traded Crawford and Upton
It's mind-boggling they let history repeat itself

But you have to keep in mind they were contenders so if they were to trade Crawford when they could've potentially won a world series with him, people would've been pissed.

You have to keep in mind that I know what the circumstances were and I would have traded him anyways
I would gladly sacrifice one playoff run if it meant re-stocking the talent pool to make multiple playoff runs in the future
