Griffin: Sources say extension done, Rosenthal: 2yr/$25m

Post#1 » by dagger » Mon Dec 17, 2012 4:11 pm

AA went to see Dickey personally, sources say extension is done and Dickey may be getting the mandatory physical

http://thestar.blogs.com/baseball/

Sources are now saying that negotiations with Dickey have ended successfully at an affordable rate and that the next step before an announcement can be made is for Jays' medical staff to examine the righthander at their spring training headquarters in Florida.

Hmm, interesting. Lets hope he didnt change his price (13 mill per). It would be really nice to have him that cheap. Must say though, I am warming up to the trade.

I think we went up to 2/40 to make the total 3 years 3/45.

Still a bargain.

I doubt the Jays would have had to pay him $7m more per season then what he was asking from the Mets. My guess is 2 years $30m = 3 years $35m

I say AA offered 2/27 with 2 club options for 15 & 16 million in 2016 + 2017.

In total, 4 /58

Dickey probably countered with 3/42

I'm not sure the dollars per year is important as the number of years. So long as the number of guaranteed years added remains at 2, even if there is an third year option with a buyout, I'm not the least concerned.

That's awesome. I'm glad that we got him signed quickly without any drama. It sounds like AA just hashed it out on the dinner table with him; which is always an easier thing.

WOW. AA comes through again. I'd love to hear if there are any club options attached to that.

I bet going to see RA personally saved the Jays several million dollars.

The 'we valued you enough to trade our farm', the 'we are top contenders for a title', the 'our money is as good as their money', messages delivered in person would be effective i think. a different level of respect than RA felt he was getting from the Mets, etc...

Edit: didn't see the 25Million reported --- amazing deal.

(still don't like the trade though from a value perspective.

Considering Dickey's salary this season, and that Buck for Thole will be a saving, do the Jays have another move? Maybe a one-year deal for a first base/DH bat?

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN
Dickey just landed in FLA to undergo his physical with the Jays. Some of his 2-year, $25m extension with TOR will be a signing bonus for '13

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN
Dickey asked for some of his '14-'15 extension to be pushed up front to '13, to help offset tax difference...

Given Roger's willingness to spend so far, convincing them about some finishing touches to complete Operation: all in isn't the most outlandish idea ever.
