http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/m ... index.htmlI can't pick a single excerpt to summarize it as the whole thing is interesting (it's only 2 pages). From being sexually abused as a child and growing up in a dysfunctional household to being where he is today is amazing. I might pick up his book at some point as his story is definitely moving.

His path to the Cy Young award last year is probably one of the most unusual and in many ways inspiring sports stories in recent memory. Everyone was so focused on Jeremy Lin's underdog story that Dickey's was kind of overlooked.
- Abused as a child.
- Born without the ligament that most pitcher's fear they'll never injure.
- Didn't know about the lack of the ligament until later and it nearly derailed his career.
- Kicked around in the minors and never gave up.
- Cut from training camp from the Mets only a few years ago.
- Mastering the knuckleball at such a late stage in life and not only mastering it but improving it by having multiple speeds and one of the fastest knucklers in MLB history. Having a low walk rate despite throwing a pitch that's renown for control issues.
- Winning the CY Young.
- Climbing Mount Kiliimanjaro (Despite it not being an advanced climb at all apparently 40% of people who attempt the climb every year never make it to the top)
- Just inked a 25 million dollar contract
In my mind, he's a testament to hard work and never giving up. He's had an improbable ride to the top and from all accounts he's a great, charitable human being as well. Glad he's a Jay.

The mets (Wilpons) were mad at him for climbing Mt. Kiliimanjaro and asked him not to do it. It was for charity and he ignored the Mets request (We've got jerks as owners anyway). Wilpons were also unhappy about some of Dickey's outspokenness more recently around his contract. But I've never met a fan who didn't love the guy.
We were hoping we could trade owners as part of this deal, but that didn't happen.
