There's a lot of talk about how we've depleted our farm system over the last month or so, and the prospect list is looking a lot less impressive.
But, we do seem to have a fairly large amount of players that don't technically qualify as prospects, but are similar in the sense that they could turn out to be good players a few years from now, but can't now (for whatever reason).
Guys like Hutchison, Gose, Drabek, Cecil don't technically qualify as prospects anymore but it seems quite plausable that some of these guys (some more than others) could turn into MLB players down the road and provide some value. If you factor them into our prospect list, it doesn't look quite as bad.
What are your thoughts on these guys?

I agree other than Cecil who's future is a gascan AAA pitcher.
Hutchison in reality is our #1 prospect.

Two wrongs don't make a right, and three rights... make a left.

Yeah, Hutch can still be a pretty great player down the road imo. His minor league stats are great. And, in the majors at 21 y/o he posted 7.57k's/9, 3.07bb/9, 44gb% which are great numbers for such a young pitcher. He got a tad unlucky, but if he could come back, and improve on those #'s he could have a very good career.
For the record, Josh Johnson posted pretty similar k, bb, gb%'s last year.

Still have Sierra too.
It's possible we could pick a sweet college hitter like Kris Bryant at #10 in the draft and if you count Gose and Hutch which we really should:
Gose
Hutchison
Sanchez
Bryant
Osuna/Nolin
I mean is it really that bad? We'll be fine.

Highly doubt Bryant gets passed by Boston.

Everyone forgets about A.J. Jimenez, he's a decent prospect at catcher

He'll be the starting catcher in 2015. Primarily because Arencibia stinks but also because Jimenez will at the very least be an exceptional defender.

Cecil is a credulous LOOGY. I fully expect him to make the bullpen.

Re: Prospects that don't qualify as prospects
One of Drabek/Hutchinson (most likely Hutchinson) will be the 5 starter for the next few years if Johnson leaves.
Drabek showed signs of being a solid pitcher at times.
Hutchinson is still very young and was quite impressive for being thrown into the bigs too soon. I think he should spend some time in the minors to work on his pitches before he comes back to the bigs permanently.
Gose should be a solid but not awesome outfielder, will likely start either after Melky leaves or if Rasmus gets non-tendered.
Cecil has a future as a LOOGY, especially since he was originally supposed to be a reliever.
So yea, these guys still have potential to provide some solid contributions.

Gose last year while batting .220, outplayed Rasmus according to advanced stats. If Gose hits .240 he is a solid outfielder, .260 and you are talking about a pretty sweet outfielder. Base running and defense in CF make up a lot of value.

So have we figured out why Cecil's velocity dropped? I might've missed it but was always curious how that might've severely impacted his entire career.

Lost weight. Cannot generate as much velocity.
