The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed right-handed pitcher Mickey Storey off of waivers from the Houston Astros.
Storey, 26, made his major-league debut in 2012 with Houston, appearing in 26 games and posting a 0-1 record with a 3.86 earned-run average out of the bullpen.
The six-foot-two, 185-pound right-hander held opponents to a .237 average, including a .167 mark against left-handed hitters.
The Blue Jays now have 40 players on the 40-man roster.

Might be a sign Oliver is leaving IMO.
Great young arm, I'm surprised he was on waivers.

I feel like we're missing something here, why would a young arm like his be on waivers? He's put up decent numbers..

His age mostly; he doesn't throw very hard despite the nice strikeout totals and is a flyball pitcher. Not bad for depth I suppose. Was following him last year when he was the Astros.

... Hes only 27 years old. That's not very old, I doubt age was a factor. Sure if the kid was 20 he wouldn't be on waivers but even if he was 32 it would have been a decent pick up.

They'll likely try to pass him through waivers themselves and lose him. I wouldn't get too attached. Not a sign of anything Oliver-related considering they've been picking up guys in this vein for the last month.

with a black guy, a pedophile, and a rapist.
They sit down at the bar, and proceed to get thoroughly trashed. At the end of the night they waive the bartender over to collect their bill. The bartender says "Oh, don't worry about it guys, Jays players are drinking free here this year! But, Kobe, that will be $50".

He has options. I think it's more likely we keep him on the 40 man for depth.

If he has options how can it be possible the Astros have no one else to waive worse than this guy? Don't get me wrong, I know nothing about him other than his fastball sucks, but I don't understand how a team that bad can't have room for a guy who put up a sub 3 FIP and 10+ K/9 in relief for them last year. Maybe I'm wrong, but I find it hard to believe they have 40 other guys who are more useful or more likely to be claimed if waived than a guy like Storey for the current 'stros. Which isn't to say I think we'll get anything out of him, just a free replacement player that might do in a pinch.

They were simply making room for the rule 5 draft so they could draft Josh Fields and Nate Freiman. They DFA'ed him before the draft, and he was put on waivers 10 days later before he jumped around a couple teams, and if I understand correctly Houston tried to get him back, and did, and then waived him again to make room for Carlos Pena.

Yeah, this is his waiver team bouncing offseason, just like the other players the Jays claimed:
Nov 20 - Claimed by the Yankees off waivers from Houston.
Nov 30 - DFA'd by the Yankees.
Dec 6 - Claimed by Houston off waivers from the Yankees.
Dec 17 - DFA'd by Houston.
Dec 19 - Claimed by the Blue Jays off waivers from Houston.

Didn't know that when I posted, but that should make it all the more obvious what the Jays intend to do with him like the others.

There is a significant chance he plays ST games for us. Might get cut then, but I'm willing to bet we don't DFA him unless another trade/signing happens.

Houston was trying to sneak him through waivers, I assume because he was claimed twice. I see the Jays DFAing him in a couple days.

How long does it take before a player clears waivers? Since he got DFA's on Nov 30th by the Yanks and only claimed by Houston on Dec 6th, which is 6 days, which seems like a really long time for a player to be in limbo on waivers (especially compared to the 24hr NHL waivers).
