My thoughts...

- Melky should be 85+
- Lawrie should be 83+
- Bonifacio should be 83-
- Dickey should be 95+
- Romero should be 80-
- Happ should be 75-

now I'm probably a little biased but I think the jays got jipped on the team rankings. they're ranked 5th overall (boston is 3rd), while being ranked 7th in pitching and 26th in defense. how does that make any sense. IIRC they were ranked middle of the pack defensively in mlb12, so I don't see how its possible they are a bottom 5 team defensively after replacing davis, escobar, and johnson with cabrera, reyes, and bonifacio. developer must be a red sox fan. its only a video game and these ratings are totally meaningless, but for a game that prides itself on being the most realistic baseball simulation ever, that aint very realistic. can't wait til it drops next tuesday though.

I'm new to the gaming world but I bought the Show 11 after Christmas and have been playing it a lot. Is the numerical value of players new this year?

I do think Lawrie's rated pretty low - but maybe they make up for it in the 'potential' category?

Having Boston rated 3rd overall is absurd - Jays at 5th makes sense to me though. I'd assume Washington, San Fran, Detroit, and NY would still rank above them (Atlanta or even LA Dodgers could be in the mix too).

I wonder how they'll have Dickey pitch in this version - in '11 he had decent numbers the year before but he was brutal to pitch with. The CPU always hammered the knuckleball (and it only clocked in the 60's). Hopefully it'll be more accurate this year and fun to use.

Overalls are overrated. Either way, I think the Jays will have their ratings increased over the season.

I didn't pick up last year's version but got MLB the show 11 and loved it. I'm going to pick up this year's but truthfully, the only mode I'll play is the Road to the show. Any idea if there are any major improvements?

Bonifacio at 87?
Lind at 77?
Romero at 83?
Arencibia at 81?
Janssen, Delabar, and Santos all in the mid-high 80s?

All bias aside, they should be much, much lower. And where's Loup? He's one of our best relievers.

every year i tell myself i want to get the game, especially since Bautista is on the cover last year. He's on it again this year.. how's the learning curve for this game? I would assume learning how to pitch is the hard part?

Easier than one would think, actually. Road to the Show is very fun but frustrating at times because of weird AI management, example: playing as a Shortstop for the Jays leads to the team trading away Romero to get Johnny Peralta, and playing as Starting Pitcher the team would trade Yunel Escobar, Arencibia, and Lawrie to get Joe Blanton, Bud Norris, and Barry Zito, wtf computer A.A?

But in the end it's pretty fun striking out 16 guys a game or hitting a 1.300 OPS (on normal mode with adjusted game sliders). "Learning" how to pitch is not difficult, just set your camera angle to the one you desire, select a pitch and aim the ball by pressing/holding X, once you get the hang of controlling the pitch just figure out your own set of preferred sequences (Fastball x2 then Changeup, etc.).

I got The Show 09 and 12 but I might break my own rule of not buying consecutive years simply because of the dramatically changed rosters this time 'round.

I know what you mean, but if you really want to skip some parts, there's an option in settings where you can turn off defensive/fielding and base-running appearances and opportunities and instead just do some batting as a positional player, I did that with one of my guys, saved a LOT of time and repetition. Once I got the hang of batting I started to get into the other aspects.

Not proud to say it, but I got my guy to the majors by breezing through the minors by simulating/reloading, and started to play it properly in the majors. Really didn't want to face computer re-gen pitchers/hitters for so long.

in road to the show mode, one game takes less than 10 minutes. you only play defense when a ball is hit to you (if your player is a positional player, except for catcher where you only have to attempt to catch runners stealing), every other play is skipped. and you only hit when it's your turn in the line-up.

Probably a sign that speed and defense are overrated in the game.

Overalls don't mean that much, a 87 could be more valuable than a 94 and vica versa. It's just a generic numeric value assigned to a player to try and show how valuable they are. Like all stats that try and combine everything, they are flawed.

Anyone playing the game early?

Ratings have been updated I believe.

Jays now 4th, Rsox 8th.

He was the cover last year too, we have a different one compared to our American neighbours.

I'm breaking my own rule of not buying the same game in consecutive years hoping this year's version is more glitch-free and exciting.
