Rush frontman Geddy Lee will throw out the ceremonial first pitch when the Toronto Blue Jays open their 37th regular season on Tuesday night against the Cleveland Indians.

The vocalist, bassist and keyboardist of the Toronto rock band has been a longtime Blue Jays season ticket holder and baseball fan. Lee and his Rush bandmates Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 18.

Canadian singer Danielle Wade will perform the national anthems at a sold-out Rogers Centre. She stars as Dorothy in the Toronto theatrical production of "The Wizard of Oz."

Nice that he is also a big fan of the team, I'm guessing we will be seeing Geddy sitting behind the plate for a lot of games this season.

With the Jays new "youthful" fanbase, how many fans there are actually going to know who Geddy Lee, or Rush are.

Should have gotten Drake or Justin Bieber to throw out the first pitch of the season.

Youthful fanbase that people talk about is like 18-30 i guess. Im sure people in that age group know who rush are. Especially due to I love you man.

I like it. Geddy went to my highschool :)

why couldn't they have gotten Rush to do the Canadian Anthem? (Besides the fact that it would have been about 17 mins long)

After the Jays incredible offseason, AA should be throwing out the first pitch.

edit: And that is Anthopolous not Alan Anderson, which would be equally hilarious.

Let it be known, I in no way disapprove of this selection. I know Rush have been long time Jays fans, so I think it's a good fit.

I'm 25 (so pretty much in the middle of 18-30), and I can't name a single Rush song besides "Closer to the heart." I, like most, have heard of them before, but I couldn't pick them out of a lineup.

All that said, I can't think of anyone who would have been a better choice.

Anderson would refuse to give the ball back, and would end up pitching a complete game 84-hitter.

Play Ball! In the great white north.
Play Ball! It's a beauty game to watch.

OK, I got nothin'.

Always hated Rush/Lee. That's just not the way bass is supposed to sound.

I never understood the hype around Rush. But whatever, here's a season where we can be much more interested in what happens on the field than all the outside noise.
