Blue Jays-Official ?@BlueJays 10m
.@BlueJays have claimed 1B MAURO GOMEZ on waivers from the #RedSox and have optioned him to @BuffaloBisons

Gomez, 28, hit .310/.371/.589 with 24 home runs in 426 Triple-A plate appearances last year, playing mostly first base.

Six games and we already have 2 DFAs and 2 waiver claims.

How so ?

The DFAs and waiver claims are org depth, not anything that would have a long lasting impact on the 25 man.

It's not a big deal, i just think it's funny that we have been this active and we're only 6 games in.

From Jeffress, Bush to now likely Gonzalez.

Chances are he'll get crushed too.

Making players feel like they will be DFA'd after a short stint won't be good for their confidence especially when you consider how much success in baseball has to do with ones mental state.

So, DFA'ing one player is going to make another player feel less confident about his future, but placing a waiver claim on that same player doesn't have the reverse effect of actually making the player feel more confident ?

And even if they did, who cares ?
They are organizational depth.

My only qualm is that it's Gonzalez being added to the 25, again leaving us with unnecessary bloat in the pen and limited options for in-game maneuvering.

Which of these guys is taking the final few 40 man spots isn't really worth any concern though. Spots on the 40 man are always fluid and players who are at risk of being DFA'd generally understand this is the nature of the game.

Jeffrress and Bush were just depth bullpen pitchers that are out of options. They have to be DFA'd to make roster spots and have little value anyways.

We can find someone else that throws strikes in the minors that can be sent back and forth or hopefully around mid season we get Perez,Hutch,Drabek back since we don't have a spot for them in the rotation.

Bush is out of options so he had to be DFA'd. Probably wont be claimed so we basically just sent him back to the minors. If he is claimed he gets another opportunity
