Annoying to the say the least. Stay healthy big guy.

Too bad. He looked like he was back in 2011 mode. We do have a good replacement in Lincoln, so hopefully he gets called up, not other junks like Bush or Batista.

Lawrie is taking Santos' spot. But yeah hopefully they drop Ortiz for Lincoin.

Well, that explains Rogers over Santos tonight. Gibbons...always two steps ahead of all of us.

Or drop Ortiz for literally anyone who isn't Ortiz. For the past half-decade, there isn't a pitcher or player whose persistent presence in the majors has baffled me more.

Remember Brian Tallet?

Tallet had a 4.71 ERA with us over 411 IP.
Since 2003, Ramon Ortiz has a 5.26 ERA over 837.1 IP.
Conclusion: Ramon Ortiz makes Brian Tallet look like Randy Johnson.

Nope, Tallet was a pretty good reliever for 2 years. Also ate up some innings in 2009.
http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?pl ... position=PHe isn't quite Ramon Ortiz, who wasn't even good when he was supposedly good and hasn't had a productive season in a decade:

Storey or Schwimer would also be fine.

If Tallet wasn't converted to a starter in 2009, he may still have a career. From 2006-08, he was pretty solid as a reliever. Seems like 2009 and turning him into a starter destroyed him.
As far as Santos, it sucks. When he is on, he is filthy. Hopefully he gets healthy soon.

To put my opinion into perspective, I'd rather "Upper" Deck McGuire up as a reliever, than ever having to see Ramon Ortiz pitch.

Remember when Brian Tallet was our ace and best pitcher for about a month?

Isn't Ortiz just here to fill the Edgar Gonzalez mop up/long relief/save the bullpen role?

I wouldn't quite go that far because Halladay was in the middle of a great year, but Tallet did have a great month of May as a starter in 2009:

Yeah, but you need to be able to record outs to save the bullpen.

**** to lose Santos now, he was showing flashes of how nasty his stuff can be.
But I suspect we'll just DFA a couple of bench guys and go with a 15 man staff to combat it.
Strength in numbers. Even if the masses include the likes of Ramon Ortiz.

It would appear that AA's new found commitment to depth is going to be put to the test.
BTW, I have a fairly regular contact with AA, though one from which I expect zero information.

Assuming Ortiz is DFA'd to make room for Lawrie, and one of Lincoln/Storey ( don't think Schwimmer is available yet ) is recalled to replace Santos, then we can certainly get through the next couple of weeks with ease.
If it's something recurring throughout the season, then we'll start to feel it.
