A number of baseball officials still expect the Tampa Bay Rays to trade David Price this season.

The Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers are considered the front-runners for the left-hander.

It may be hard for Tampa Bay to trade Price within the American League.

Obviously Tampa doesnt want to deal him in the same division, but do you think the Jays could have blown the Rays out of the water with an offer, if they still had all those prospects.

D'Arnaud, Syndergaard, Nicholini, Marsiknick, Hechawaria, Alvarez etc...

Take any 3 othose players + spare parts....I think the Rays would do it..... but then again, its just "what ifs" now.

Well at least if he's gone from the division that helps us.

I'd love AA to sign this guy if he reaches FA. Probably wont happen though. But a guy can wish, right??

The Cards and Rangers could, if desired, trump anything we can offer now or could have offered in the winter. Both have deep systems, and Jurickson Profar/Oscar Tavares are the consensus #1/#2 prospects in the game.

I think people are overestimating what the Rays will get for Price . Yes Price is under contract until 2015 and he's a young stud but he's a Super 2 player that will shatter arbitration records. He could make 15-17 million in 2014 and 20-23 million in 2015, that seriously suppressed his value

And there's absolutely no chance he'll sign an extension with unless they're giving him 200 million and maybe more depending on what Kershaw gets.

Did you not see what they got for Garza and Shields? That team is just so well-managed.

I figure to convince the Rays to trade him within the division the Jays would have to pay a 30-50% tax over any non-divisional offers, and at that point you're just making a really bad trade.

We already made a bad trade with Mets and they're not even in the same league.

I know what the Rays got for Garza and Shields, they were good trades but the situation is different with Price. He's gonna be taking up 1/5th of an average teams payroll BEFORE arbitration, he's not cheap before free agency and he'll ask for a record breaking 200+ million.

I'm not criticizing anything the Rays are doing, although their drafting since 2007-2008 has been pretty poor. We haven't unearthed many major league players yet either but we did turn a lot of those picks into assets, beyond a couple of players you can't really say the same thing about the Rays.
