So who is the leader? Who has the wherewithal and credibility to light a fire under this team's backside? I sense a lack of fortitude so far. Anyone with the stones? Can it work?

Yeah. What we're really missing is GRIT and DETERMINATION and DESIRE and other words that can be UNNECESSARILY CAPITALIZED.

However, the doorman will turn away much of the team for insufficient swag. Bautista's facial hair will be allowed in, as will Kawasaki's dance moves, but the rest will be forced to wait it line for hours before being told that there isn't room left in the player's lounge.

Unlike this thread, baseball is a funny game. It's not a game where trying harder helps, like say, basketball. Closed door player only meetings aren't going to accomplish a thing.

I witnessed most of Dave Winfield's career, and except for one - sorry, ONE! - key hit in the 1992 WS, the guy was a choke artist extraordinaire. In the 1981 WS against the relatively untalented Dodgers (shoulda been the Expos ) he went 1 for 22 and the Yankees went down in flames. When asked if he choked his response was: "No, I was trying to0 hard."

Bau and EE aren't used to dealing with the expectations on them this season. But they have another 140 games to figure it out.

That was one playoff series and the Yanks never returned to the playoffs after that until the mid 90's after Winfield was long gone but it certainly wasnt his fault they never went to the playoffs. He was very productive every year including September when the Yanks were in some pennent races. His failure in the 1981 WS was magnified because Steinbrenner famously called him Mr May because he was in the shadow of Reggie Jackson.

It didn't. They still flubbed an easy double play in a huge situation, and it's not like EE hit 2 homers because Mark Derosa told him he needed to be better at hitting.
